We're going to WDW in 3 months and I'm trying to think of ideas to reduce the time I spend getting ready in the morning. Mascara application is a huge time-sucker for me. It takes close to an hour for me to do both upper and lower lashes and I'm thinking lash extensions might be a solution to this problem. Has anyone had experience with these?

An hour...for mascara?!!??:scared1: How is that even possible? Mascara should take about 60 seconds, tops.

If you are so particular about your eyelashes extensions might be the way to go.

My lashes are very short, thin, and skimpy. I don't just swipe mascara over them - that would be useless. I build them up first with primer (several coats) and then apply the mascara. It is a painstaking process, but it gets results.

Ok I have the worst eyelashes in the world. there is no way..an hour? Why? You're on vacation. I wore make-up one time during our entire honeymoon and it was to dinner at night. Eyelash extensions won't stand up to the humidity and swimming, plus they are expensive for just a tiny trip. No one's is going to be looking at your eyes at Disneyworld...there's a castle.
It takes me 20 minutes to apply my make-up flawlessly. I know a lot of women feel they can't leave the house without make up though.:confused3

I would just try pulling back on the mascara. Who's going to notice?

Wow, I know nothing about extensions, but want to add to those encouraging you to cut back on the make-up time at WDW. An hour a day--you could hit several attractions in that time, linger over a longer dinner, sleep in, go swimming, etc. Two coats of mascara takes about two minutes--and is a lot of mascara. Why not try it for your vacation?

PS - you need sunglasses almost always outside in FL, so your eyes will be behind them. Might be a good time to try less mascara.

Have fun!

Sunglasses VERY TRUE! Also what type of mascara are you using? I would imagine with that much time and application you go through a lot? You could try a different brand which might give you the same look that is taking you 1 hour. As someone with Very Very tiny eyelashes I would suggest: Bad Girl Lash by Benefit, Maybelline Stiletto, Chanel Volumin. Go to Sephora and get a consultation. They are really good at helping you cut down make-up time and still looking beautiful.

I am going to suggest that "we" not be so critical. The OP asked a question about extensions. If you don't have any experience with them, then I don't really believe you are being "helpful" with snarky remarks.

Some folks like to look put together and nice even when on vacation and we should not judge what is "right" for another person.:hippie:

I use a combination of Lancome's Fatale and Definicils over primer. I've tried many different brands and application techniques and honestly, I've never found anything that makes my lashes look as long and lush. Just brushing a couple coats of mascara on my lashes does absolutely nothing - you still can't see my lashes so I might as well not even bother.

As far as cutting back on my routine - that's what I'm trying to accomplish with the extensions without sacrificing the look. I don't swim, so I don't have to worry about that. I'm just wondering if I'll be happy with the look. I've seen pictures and some of them look amazing and others....not so much. Also, I'm wondering if I can use eye shadow primer with them. I've heard you can't use oil-based products on your eyes and if I can't use eye shadow primer, I'm not going to get them.

Oh, and thanks LindaR. I knew I was bound to get flack for my beauty routine, but that's ok. We all have our idiosyncrasies and this is mine. :)

At first I thought I mis read and the op said that it took an hour to put on her make up which I thought might be a long time but I was figuring hair etc. When I REALIZED it was only the lashes I thought gosh how much time does it take to do the rest? I agree with the others. There are tons of fantastic mascaras out there and it does not take that much time to apply them I am five minutes tops and that is a huge exaggeration. Why waste valuable time on vacation putting on so much make up when it is just going to melt off in the Florida sun and rain? I would go with less so that if the humidity and rain storms do get the best of you, you don't look like "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" I am not saying go without just go with less. I know the OP asked about extensions but I agree with another poster who said they would just come off in the extremely humid conditions.

I just read your current post and I also use Fatale. I love it! It makes your lashes really long. I stumbled upon it at the Lancome outlet store for 5.00 a tube! Stupidly I got only two tubes because I did not know how great it was. I have to ask with all that mascara how do you avoid clumps? Even though Fatale and Deficils are good they too clump if you over do it.

Have you tried L'Oreal Voluminous? I have tried just about every brand of mascara and this one works the best imo. I like a lot of lash and this brand really works. Give it a try before you go. It's only about 7.50 for a tube of it. I wear more than one coat but it works well.

For those of you that use Fatale, don't you have a problem with smudging?

I got a free one a few weeks ago when the stores were giving away free makeup. I was so excited by my score until I tried it. It really smudges.

Did I just get a bad one or does it have a reputation for smudging?

I am very careful with application - obviously. I take an hour to apply it! :rotfl2:

Honeslty, I don't get how everyone has problems with makeup melting off in heat and humidity. I do take a long time to get ready in the morning, but my makeup lasts ALL DAY and looks no different at 11:00 PM than when I walk out the door in the morning. I only touch-up my foundation, eyebrow pencil, and lipstick during the day and it takes a few minutes to do that. We've gone in the heat, humidity and horrible rainstorms. No problems.

I've never had a problem with smuding at all. It may be because I use a primer, though.

You can't use any oil based products they are just like getting hair extensions. I honestly would love to see a picture of your naked lashes. I beat it's not as bad as you think. I had extensions for my wedding and they were fine. They looked great in photos but they can be VERY dramatic, which think isn't the look your going for on a family vacation. Also with the weather being the wa it is in FL and the humidity you should look into a mineral Makeup if you are really that into wearing make-up during your trip. It's better for your skin and easier to apply and take off at night.

S for if you will be happy with the look: it depends, clearly you wear a lot of make-up in your everyday life. So it depends on how comfortable you are with your natural face vs your made up face. The only good piece of advice my mom gave me concerned make-up. If people say your make-up looks beautiful you did it wrong, if people say, "you look beautiful." you did it just right.

I'm not trying to give you flack, I just really can't understand why anyone would think they need that much mascara. It makes me think of Tammy Fayee. I'm sure you look great without it and it's more an insecurity than idiosyncrasy.

an hour? Maybe you need a bigger mascara wand?;)

Seriously though, wear sunglasses and don't worry about the eyelashes.

I have blonde eyelashes. They are fairly long, but invisible without mascara. I have to wear mascara every day. But, I just use Maybelline and put on a couple coats and go. I have often thought about getting my eyelashes dyed so I don't have to do that every day and worry about it coming off (I only wear non-waterproof).

Could you dye your eyelashes....would that be of any help?

NO it never smudges on me. Maybe you are using a make up with too much oil and that is making it smudge. I am really bummed I never went for the free make up. If I knew they were giving away Fatale I would have gone a hundred times over:rotfl: It is REALLY hard to pay 24.95 at Sephora when it was only 5.00 at the outlet. I am hoping Lancome has a gift and that will ease the pain when I need to re buy it. I just keep checking the outlet store and have NO idea why they had it so cheap. If they have it for even 10.00 again I am going to buy 10 of them!

Oh, I do use a mineral make-up and I absolutely love it! But I think everyone is getting the wrong idea. Yes, I use a lot of make-up, but I don't look like Tammy Faye. I don't spend all my time caking it on, coat after coat - it has more to do with precision. I spend a lot of time building up my lashes with the primer, making sure they are all straight and separated and then making sure the mascara goes on smoothly and that they stay straight and separated.

Here is a picture: I'm usually the one behind the camera so I don't have a lot to choose from. It's is in black and white and you can't tell much about my lashes, but at least you can see I do NOT look like Tammy Faye (please tell me I don't look like Tammy Faye).

ETA: and I'm going to go ahead and say what you all are probably thinking but are too polite to point out - yes, I realize 'older' women should wear LESS makeup, not more. Nevertheless, I prefer dramatic eyes and like the way they look on me.

No my eyelashes are dark enough - they are just very fine, short, and wispy.
