Has anyone ever had this done?

I really want freedom from contact lenses and glasses and this seems to have come down in price slightly (although it is still very expensive).

I would love to hear from anyone who has tried this before.

Thankyou.

I had my eyes done in 1997 and It's the best choice I've ever made :)

It was just before our first trip to WDW that I had mine done. It was great to get 'normal' sunglasses and be able to see my DDs faces while swimming with them!

It's the little things that make the biggest difference - like waking up an being able to read the time on the alarm clock without having to hunt around for your specs. :)

i had i done two years ago and my only regret is that i didnt do it 10 years ago!!
i would be happy to discuss my experiance further if you want to pm me:D

I wish I was as brave as you guy's it is something I will love to try:)

Just a thought.
Most of the replies to this thread have been that it has been of benefit to them.
Consider this, If the treatment had not been succesful and your eyesight is now worse than before it is likely that you would be unable to read this thread at all to leave negative vibes!
I wear glasses and would love to have perfect 20/20 vision but my eyesight is more precious to me than to take a chance with Laser correction.
Just my opinion

I have had both eyes done using PRK which preceded Lasik and all the newer options. The first was done in 1993. The second in 1997. Both times it was by NHS Consultants working for optimax (www.optimax.co.uk) which I would have no hesitation in recommending. Optimax is cheaper than most (all?) but rather than meaning you get less care, what it really means is that they are more experienced as they simply do far more than anyone else.

Eric I understand where you are coming from but I always compared it with having a broken leg. If your leg is broke you don't make do with crutches for life - you get it fixed. So, if your eyes are broke, why make do with glasses when you can get them fixed too?

Ultimately its a judgment call. At the time I had mine done I was an early adopter (albeit the same operation had been carried out for decades in the USSR using scalpels). Optimax at the time would not do both eyes together - insisting on an interval of at least 6 months. I still think this is good practice but now (because of the positive track record) it is common to get both done simultaneously or as near as. I believe having one done at a time is safest. Finally, I should add that my DW only has sight in one eye due to childhood measles. Optimax refused to operate on her "good" eye because of this as the risk was greater, which I thought was very positive - they weren't just chasing an extra sale.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Interesting thread. :) This is something I've been considering having done of the past month or so, my eyesight isn't terrible, I don't have to wear my glasses/contacts all the time but the joy of not having to bother with them at all sounds wonderful.

However, I have no idea where to start in the process and, being a bit of a scaredy cat .... does it hurt??!

Anyone who can help?

Thanks guys.

More modern techniques have faster recovery rates than the PRK I had. The brief answer is not much, and certainly bearable in hindsight. Short sharp pain (as the local anaesthetic drops wear off) for a day or so - ameliorated by asprin. This was followed by discomfort for a week or so similar to having a piece of grit in your eye when you are wearing your contact lenses or wearing hard lenses for the first time.
