Has anyone had laser hair removal? If so, how was your experience? How long did it take for the hair to fall out after the treatment?

I am going to do it for me and my 13yodd. I inquired about it at dd's last salon appt. and the technician told us to wait until the fall. She said that you have to be out of the sun for 6 weeks after or something to that effect.

I know the hair has to be dark to work. I can't wait to get it done myself.

I did my bikini area. Well worth the $600 I spent - no more painful waxing!!

The hair doesn't "fall out". You shave right before your appointments. (if you did it without shaving, the smell would be awful because it actually burns the hair).

I had a total of six treatments, and after each one, the amount of hair that grew back was less and less.

It is a bit uncomfortable, but no where near as painful as waxing.

BTW, I started my treatments at the beginning of the summer, last year. The technician never said anything about avoiding the sun. I spent a lot of time at the beach, boating, etc. and didn't have any problem. However, I do use a lot of sunscreen.

Wow, that's completely different than my experience and that of my two friends! My coworkers and I were told to let the hair grow a day or two (underarms) and then to come in. (They did theirs last year, I did mine yesterday). It does smell awful, but no biggie really. I heard it would take 2 to 12 days to fall out. That's interesting that you shaved first...
I was told to use sunblock 25, but I would never put that under my arms, and anyway, they never see the sun!

It might just be the technician's preference, and not anything to do with the effectiveness of the treatment - because when I asked her about the shaving she specifically said it reduces the amount of hair (and the accompanying burning smell).

Well, I could certainly have done without Scent of Burning Human!!! :rotfl:

How much did the underarm treatment cost? I have a $200 gift certificate for this that I won at the school carnival raffle--I am afraid it won't go very far.

It was $300 for the first go, and will be $75 for subsequent treatments, of which there may be two or three on down the road. It's going to be so worth it though!! My friend's underarms look like the inside of her forearm now--that smooth and that hairless.

The darker and COURSER the hair, the better. It took mine about 10 days and yes, the hair does FALL OUT. I was told not to shave, but rather trim the hair, because the laser is looking for color. I found that different areas of the body respond differently.
