Hi
My DH and I are going to Vegas in May. He has a conference at Ballys. It will be the first time there for us. Any suggestions on shows or day trips to take? We've been to the Grand Canyon, so I thought checking out the Hoover Dam or I think its called Red Rock Canyon might be something to do. The conference is for 4 days, but he'll skip the last day. Also, I can never get enough Disney, so would it be to out of the way to go to
Disneyland? We've never been there before? Thanks!!
Most of the tours to places like Hoover Dam range from 4 to 8 hours hotel to hotel. They range from $50 to $190 depending on what you choose to do like a helicopter ride or paddling a kayak.
Red Rock tours range from 3.5 hours to 6 hours and cost between $60.00 and $150 again depending on how you want to see it.
There are a lot of things you can do on the strip almost every hotel has something you can see for free or pay a fee to do.
Aladdin has their Desert Passage Mall that is fun to wander around in.
Bellagio has their fountains, their Conservatory and their Art Gallery *it does cost to get in but usually they have the greatest art there* and right now they are featuring Ansel Adams the photographer.
Caesars Palace has the Forum Shops along with The Fall of Atlantis and Festival Fountain shows along with exotic cars.
Flamingo Hilton has a wildlife habitat complete with Flamingos and Penguins
Luxor has an IMAX theatre and 4D Pirate show along with a ride simulator
Mandalay Bay has a shark reef that is incredible
MGM has their lion exhibit and CBS Television City where you can screen new TV shows.
Mirage has the volcano outside, the White Tiger Habitat and the Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat
NY NY has their roller coaster *but beware it is VERY jerky and hurt my neck*
Paris has the Eiffel Tower you can go up in
Rio *which is just off strip* has the Masquerade Village
Stratosphere has rides on the top of it and they are VERY high!
Treasure Island has the Sirens of TI show
Venetian has an art gallery *though they are a lot stricter on how close you can get to the art than Bellagio*, Madame Tussauds Wax, Grand Canal Shops, and Gondola Rides.
Another thing you MUST know going there is to wear really good walking shoes and be prepared to WALK, WALK, WALK. Everything is truly a Mirage there and even after going there as many times as we have we still underestimate the distance between hotels. Also depending on when you go if it's summer*ish* make sure to drink a LOT of water! There is no moisture there and it gets really freakin hot!
They do now have the Monorail which makes getting up and down the strip a LOT easier but it's on the MGM side and people don't like having to cross the street to get to places like Bellagio or Caesars. There is a free monorail from Excalibur to Mandalay Bay.
As for going to Disney.....it is feasible to do it but it can take between 4 and 6 hours depending on the day and the time you leave. Disneyland is smaller than WDW and with the 2 parks being side by side you should be able to do them both in 2 days. Calif Adventure is neat but doesn't have near the attractions that DL has so honestly you can probably do that in 3/4 of a day. We really only like the Roller Coaster at Calif Adv. so maybe that's why it's easier for us to do that park for a shorter amt of time.
Feel free to PM me if you want to. We go at least 4 times a year if not more to Vegas *it's a 6 hour drive for us* and have FUN!
