Las Vegas Trip Pictures

For our anniversary, my wife and I managed to break away without the kids for the first time in 15 years. We took a trip to Vegas and had a blast. The last time we were there was 8 years ago so things have changed a bit. Our hotel was the Flamingo which turned out to be better than expected. We got back 2 nights ago and I'm still not caught up on the missed sleep. Of course, the one day jaunt to DL didn't help matters. It's a 4 hour drive from Vegas which isn't too bad. The bad part was going back to Vegas after the 11pm close and getting to the hotel at 4am. We would have stayed somewhere that night but we needed to be back in plenty of time for our flight home and didn't want to risk cutting it too close. It was still worth it though. We missed having the kids with us but it was also nice just being kids together at DL for a change.

I surprised my DH with a quick 3-night trip to Vegas back in September, for his 50th birthday. I had casually asked him where he wanted to go for his birthday dinner, and he said "Margaritaville" (we'd been to one in Ocho Rios and had a blast!) so I got on-line to see where more were, saw there was one in Vegas, and booked the trip on-line. I was so excited!! I'd never done anything like that on the "spur of the moment."

We stayed at Harrah's, and I took some of the same pictures that you did.

Wish we would have gone into the wax museum though, among other things. But we'll just have to go back someday!

Thank you for posting those. Its been 3 years since I have been there and have missing it.

They must have changed there stance on tripods for the stratosphere. I have taken mine up there in the past years.

I'm going to Vegas next week, and was thinking of bringing my Rebel XT (not my 40D....haven't used it yet). Any settings advice for night shots? I expect my 50mm 1.8 would be recommended, although I like having a range of distance. Hmmm...maybe the 28-135 IS kit that came with the 40D?

I have to ask, did you use your tripod on the photo of the ceiling at the Venetian? I tried to get a shot of that handheld and it was dang near impossible. Of course I was rushing too because there was a ton of people milling around and I didn't want to hold up traffic. Love the night shots! Did they allow you to use flash or tripod at Madame Tussaud's? I'm going there (to Vegas) in a couple of weeks. I have a bunch of photos from many previous trips, but I just don't have the discipline to carry around the tripod. Was there anyplace besides the ride on top of the Strat that didn't allow tripods? What do you do with the tripod if you are stopped and told to`put it away? Do you have a bag to carry it in or ???

Thanks Jeff! I enjoyed "taking" the night shots in particular as well! It's quite a different experience walking around the strip and through the casinos at nearly midnight carrying camera and tripod.
