Las Vegas, please help

Just a couple of hints -
Most of the little places on the strip that sell discount tickets have strings attached. Like a timeshare presentation and things like that. We learned early on to avoid them. You can usually get deals through the hotel. If you stay somewhere like Harrah's which is mid strip - go on line and register for their players club card. You'll get discounts and free meals - we even get free rooms. We are going for a week in January and only paying for Friday night- getting the other 5 nights for free.

Oh and if you take a taxi from the airport, tell them to take the back roads to the hotels - all have a rear access road. Going down the strip in a taxi is fun but can be very expensive as the traffic is always bad.

The buses run down the strip all the time and are relatively cheap. I think it is $1.50 each time you get on but you can ride all the way downtown if you want.

We purchased tickets for shows at these places and there was no strings attached. The Tickets for Less places on the strip there isn't. Thu just sell tickets. But in the hotels there are always tables setup that sell very cheap tickets that do have the timeshare strings.

I'll have to remember that when we go in January. We avoid talking to any of them since the few we had listened to were trying to get us to go to some kind of time share or condo scheme.

Too add onto Briarfoxin, also check out the hotels and if you see a few that you are interested in, sign up for their email newsletters. I get tons of emailed discount codes from Cesears, Bellagio, Venetian and Paris hotels through a weekly email letter.

Looking at the prices and ratings, we are leaning toward Harrah's (no resort fees so cheapest) Treasure Island (about 100 dollars more) or Monte Carlo (200 more then Harrah's) All hotels are very nicely priced. Can anyone tell me which they feel is best? Thanks so much.

I have spent all day researching hotels so I can get that booked now to start planning what to do. Vegas is a lot of work. I thought Disney was work, Vegas is a lot harder to plan.

The legitimate places that sell the cheap tickets is the same company. I am sure the name is Tickets for Less. Up and down the strip you will see these places and there are usually a line up in front. When we purchased our tickets to one of the Cirque shows, we got an excellent deal. They have a big electronic sign up front with all the shows, times and prices that they have available for that night.

Do u have dates picked out? Where are u getting the prices from? Straight from the hotels website?

As long as we are able to get the time off of work, we are planning to go the last week of Feb. We will leave Sunday the 24th and return Thursday Feb. 28. I am getting the prices off their websites.

You should try places like Expedia or other travel sites. I've had 4 nights as low as $500, flights and hotel, at NY NY. The flights where also direct from my city in canada. There are always tons of deals for Vegas.

you can find Harrah @$35 a night for that week.
Treasure Island i see for $67/night(average) + $20 resort fee.
Monte Carlo i see for $65/night(average) + $20 resort fee.

Treasure Island with flight - $1,008(+ $20 resort fee) for 2 ppl. +$99 for helicopter tour(no included in $1008) Theres a choice of hotels... if you pay $200 more, u can get a really high end one. This is flight coming out of Chicago midway, im not sure if thats the airport of choice but im just giving you an idea on how much a deal would cost and see if its cheaper or not...

Midway is the airport I would choose, unless the price difference was huge. 200 more for a high end hotel isn't bad, but are the high end hotels a lot better? 99 dollars for the helicopter tour is a really good price. Where did you find that? Thank you so much!

Tix4ToNite, formerly Tickets2Nite (one company, then split, then merged - I had a looonnnnng talk with one of the owners one day ;)). Many legitimate outlets on the Strip http://www.tix4tonight.com/

Another option is goldstar.com. They send out weekly or biweekly notice of discounted tickets. And sometimes the non-timeshare-affiliated entertainment desk in your hotel has string-free discounted show tickets.

I have a poll going on the Las Vegas board here (yes, the DIS has one - it's under California and the West!) on where to stay in december. Someone, somewhere, suggested YouTube. Not to stay, but to see the hotel rooms. Try that.

Well, at least u can get a price average... :] when i went to Las Vegas in september, i probably cancelled my room 3 times because i just kept finding better rates... started from $320 --> $280 --> $250.

Did the trick at front desk, got a room that was $60 more per night. :]

I know you are leaning to stay on the strip, but you can look at the Desert Rose Resort which is right behind the Hooters and Tropicana. We will be back in June.
