We're in the midst of planning a trip to Las Vegas over Labor Day weekend- and I'm looking for advice on restaurants and or shows that you've all enjoyed.

We'll be arriving late on Thursday and departing on Tuesday morning- so we'll have 5 nights and 4 full days to spend there.

Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide!!!!

Planning trips is always fun!

I just got back from five days in Vegas- three were at a conference but I had two to take in the sites.

I would highly recommend getting tickets to see a Cirque du Soleil show- there are three that are running- Mystere is at TI (Treasure Island), O is at the Bellagio and the newest one- Zumanity is at New York, New York. All are fabulous and very different. Zumainty is a bit provocative and no one under 18 is allowed. O does some of the show in water and Mystere is just very cool classic Cirque. You can check out pics, info on the shows and get tickets at cirquedusoleil.com.

Also take in the free fountains in front of the Bellagio- they go off every 15 minutes to different music. Pretty cool.

Save your $$ for major shopping- there are amazing shops at the Venetian- the Canal Shoppes where you can even go for a Gondola ride. Caesar's has good shops at The Forum.

I had fun just resort hopping to see the different themes.

The Bellagio is spectacular with lots of fresh flowers and a butterfly garden. Great Gellato shop too for a snack.

Paris is French themed- good shop for sandwiches and French Pasteries.

Look for the 'Living Sculpures' (like what you might find in Epcot) at both the Canal Shoppes and in the Paris shops.

Book yourself an appointment for a spa treatment- Canyon Ranch has a site in the Venetian or many other Resorts have spa services.

If you want to get out of town- drive through the desert to Red Rock Canyon (just 25 min from the strip) or go take a tour of Hover Dam.

Wow- I haven't even touched on the food yet but there is good food everywhere!

Hope this helps get you started!

Have fun!

Oh- one last tip- pack some Visine if you are not a smoker. Coming from a state where smoking in public places isn't allowed anymore, the smoky casinos really bothered my eyes and I had to pick up a bottle out there.

I also have some transportation questions..........

Like how expensive are cabs? We'll probably need to take a cab from the airport to the hotel- and although it looks like the hotel is only about 4 miles away, I heard that the fare can be about $20 or so. Is that true???

We were there pretty recently and I think I paid about 8.00 with the tip for the short cab ride.

There are so many fabulous restaurants but I love going to the Venetian and having lunch while the gondolas sail by -- Vegas is truly the R rated WDW!!!

We loved Second City -- really funny. Blue Man group is a little too silly for me and Mystere isn't as good as La Nouba -JMO!

I'm also just back from a week in Vegas for a meeting -

There are two ways from the airport - cab or shuttle. Cabs can be expensive depending on where you are staying. I was at the Orleans (just off the strip on Tropicana) and the fare from the airport was about $17 if I remember correctly - it's only about 2.5 to 3 miles. The other way is shuttle and it is less expensive but it takes longer because you typically go to three to six hotels and it just depends on where you're staying as to how long it takes to get there. I take a cab - be aware that you'll need to wait in line for the cab - but it does move pretty fast.

As for shows, I agree with campinggal - A Cirque show is well worth it - saw Mystere two years ago and enjoyed every minute of it. Saw Celine Dion at Caesar's this time and it was absolutely wonderful! Surf the net for the show schedule - some shows sell out months in advance.

The Eiffel Tower at Paris is well worth the price of the ride (I think it was around $10). Spectacular view of the Strip.

Fountains at Bellagio are a must. Gardens inside also.

Gondola Ride at the Venetian is wonderful - inside or out. Ticket sales start early in the morning.

Once you check in to your hotel, check for an activity magazine in your room - it should give you a good idea of what's going on. In the mean time, start surfing the net for different sites - there are several that are very helpful. You might also check the Travel Channel if you have it in your cable - they run several Las Vegas shows.

Have a great time!

Don't go! I'm sensing you will lose all your money. A millionaire will offer your husband $1,000,000 to spend the night with you. You will take it and ...

Oh it is getting fuzzy. This happens when your first free minute is up. Sorry!

I'm getting bad vibes, let's just put it that way.

Miss Cleo, please don't jinx her.

No infos for you...but I hope you have a wonderful time and I wish you come back with lots of money so you can have another vacation at WDW soon!! :) I know I can't wait to visit Vegas!

The Cirque shows, -O- and Mystere, are typical Cirque, stunning!! The Embers restaurant, tucked in the Imperial Palace, is excellent, as is Battista's Hole in the Wall, good Italian. And I agree on the eye drops. Actually, I try to zip through and out of those casinos as fast as I can move, LOL.

I second all the above posts(Bellagio,Venetian,Ceasers, etc)!! We are going back in July(24-29th) and can't wait.

Check out this board below and you will find a lot of usefull info about Vegas.

My grandparents live there and we go at least once a year. In the past, we have stayed at the Bellagio, Rio and Suncoast (off the strip). I really love the Bellagio. It is the best place around. However, we typically stay at the Suncoast since it is near my grandparent's house.

I also have to second the Cirque thing... Zumanity is great for adults who are willing to honor sexuality. O is amazing too. I love Mystere too but would see one of the other two first.

We pretty much take taxis everywhere and always think about how much that will cost. From the suncoast, it is about $20 to the strip. But from hotel to hotel is only about $10 including tip.

Something I really enjoy is shopping at Caesars. They are extending it, but I don't know when they will be done. I also go to Bellagio for their Tiffanys and all the fun jewlery shops... I want to buy so much! but don't.

Enjoy yourself. And there is definately more to do than gamble.

Just got back from Las Vegas and I say for a lunch go to Margaritaville. It is good food and such a fun atmosphere. Also, go to Slots of Fun to get a 48oz margarita for $7.00!!!!

I took the shuttle from the airport and it took about 30 minutes to arrive at our hotel (we were the last stop!!!) We bought roundtrip tokens and they lost our reservations to come pick us up and bring us back to the airport. We almost missed our plane because they couldn't get to us for another 30 minutes. It was $8.50 rountrip from the airport to the Riviera and back.

Thanks everyone.... keep those suggestions coming!!!

Pooh_Friend#1: was the shuttle cost you quoted per person? And does it run late? Our flight won't get in until after 11 pm.

And now I have more restaurants to scope out!!!

The strip has a new monorail system that should be up and running by labor day. This will make it easy to travel up and down the strip. Also there is a trolley, which is a little less notiable. I found that a great way to travel the strip. As with Disney make sure you wear well broken in shoes. The blocks here are like New York City blocks. They look close but they are a good walk. One night my feet hurt and I had about two blocks to go and i just didn't know if I could make it. I ended up taking a bike cab. Where you sit in a cart and a guy or gal bikes you where you want to go. it cost me $10 plus tip but it was the best $10 I ever spent.

Take a trip downtown to Freemont Street. Do a las vegas seach.
If you are going to gamble, find some practice games and see how they work before you go. here's one on black jack.

There is alot to see and do in Las Vegas.
If you plan to rent a car, ebay has a lot of timeshare rentals at great prices that are a few blocks from the strip.
Do your homework and you can have a great time.
i'll be there in Nov. Can't wait.

Las Vegas is a 24 hr town.
Best Black jack playing is 6 am. I have found that trying to stay up all night gambling does not work. I like to get up early and gamble then. Take an afternoon nap and call it a night around 12 or 1. Its easier to lose money when you are tired, plus less people around at 6 or 7 am then at midnight.
If anyone in your group like cars the imperial Palace has a free auto musuem. Look in any booklet floating around for the free coupon. We spent a long time at the Straophere. We enjoyed looking around a night and they had people do carticutres.
The Hilton has a Star Trek ride that is the cost of 1/2 a Disney ticket and it is like the star tours ride. We did it and it is not worth the money, no way no how.
