For those that have traveled to Las Vegas...can somebody give me any pros or cons in traveling during the summer??

It obviously is low season as the rates at all the top hotels are low...I figure if it is doable...maybe then I could afford to see a few shows to ....

Any thoughts..?

Since Vegas is located in a desert, just imagine how the weather is going to be. Of course if you are in the hotels where there will be air conditioning it won't be that bad.
With the prices of hotels being low, you may be able to get great deals for meals and shows.

Thats what I was thinking ...how difficult is it to travel from hotel to hotel..and do people usually walk the other times of the year...Are the hotels really spread out??

heres a con, its hot :sunny:

Ok let's go with the obvious info to start with ...I know the temperature will be in the high 90's to over 100.....now what other pros or cons???

I believe there is a monorail that just started running that can take you to the different resorts. The resorts are really spread out and it is a lot of walking.

Zurgswife I LOVE the HOT DRY HEAT. Dh otoh can't stand it and has to drive to each and every hotel unless we're taking the tram.
I could walk the strip and think nothing of it so it really depends on how you feel.

BTW, if you or anyone else heading to VEGAS need any 2 for one coupons pm me. I have the Casino Perks and other books I didn't even use last April:o

Just you and Bennett, Kim, or the kids too. Not too kid friendly anymore, that 'experiment' sort of ended and it is really 'adult' oriented again. With a family of four kids, that would be a con for me. Even though the hotels are right next to each other, they are HUGE, so there is a considerable distance from one entrance to the next. But the hotels are stunning to see, if only once. They are spectacular looking. That is a plus. VERY hot, a con, but dry, a plus. Lower priced in the heat of the summer, a plus, price-wise. It is near Hoover Dam, a nice day trip, a plus. It's Las vegas, a minus, LOL. A good place to see once, IMO, not for kids though.

Honestly, we went the the first week in August for our honeymoon and neither one of us remember the heat being unbearable, or even bad at all... and I am the BIGGEST BABY, seriously, I will NOT return to Orlando in July again because I was absolutely miserable. Vegas is NOTHING in comparison.

The heat is dry, and not bad. Just wear sunscreen, becuase we didn't realize how hot it really was walking around and laying out.

Plus, besides sitting at the pool, we just walked from resort to resort, which are all FREEZING =) And the walks arent bad, I dont think.

We would DEFINETELY return again in August/JUly, but never again to Orlando.

Definately an adult trip...but I'm thinking down the road....sort dreaming...I'd love to go to Vegas...but summer time seems the most doable...

My wife and I always go in July with no problems. The dry heat is managable. It may get in the 100s, but no humidity.

You can go from hotel to hotel with very little time out side. The monorail wil cost you money (not sure how much) and it takes you all the up to the convetion center, but the trams on the other side of the street our free. Between the trams and walking inside the hotels, you will be in a/c most of the time.

Definately an adult playground.

I've been in June and August and didn't find the heat to be that bad. As others have said it's a dry heat. I'm used to the yucky humidity in NJ and the dry heat was a welcome change. The only time we noticed the heat was when we were out baking ourselves by the pool. And that's to be expected. It didn't affect us walking around the strip b/c we were in and out of air conditioned buildings. The hotels on the strip aren't that far apart, so it's not so bad IMHO.

I just returned from Vegas (July 13 to 16). It was about 105 in the day, but as others have said, it is truly a dry heat. I can't stand heat and humidity, but without the humidity it was tolerable. I wouldn't dream about going to WDW in the summer because of the weather. You do need to drink a lot of water. The monorail is now running.

Last time I was there in the summer there were a number of misters set up along the strip. Some at the casino properties, some at beverage stands hoping to take advantage of the hot temps and people's thirst.

Between the cool mists and ducking indoors now and then, it wasn't bad at all.

Actually I commented to my fiance that summers at home (up in Canada) are worse than that trip to Vegas was. I hadn't realized until then what a tremendous difference there is between a "dry heat" and the hot, sticky, muggy, elephant-on-your-chest-impossible-to-breathe weather we can get here.

Thanks for the replies.....sounds like it is doable...

We went last summer in June and it was 105-110 almost every day.

But like Disney in the summer....it's doable. We drank a ton of water and stayed in air conditioning a lot. It's great pool weather but definetly you need to be in the shade.

Monte Carlo had a great pool area for this reason.:D

We've been there, two summers...the end of June and the end of August, and we're probably going back next June.

It's hot, but it's not the same as here, in South Jersey or WDW...the humidity is very low.

I used to laugh when people would say that to me, until I went...now I know what they mean.

The last time we went, we stayed at the Flamingo and I spent most days by the pool (which, BTW, was a great pool!). They have a lot of palm trees, for shade if you want shade, and the chair I got had a mister in the tree, so I constantly was getting misted, which helped keep me cool.

And, if you plan on walking the strip and checking out all the hotels (which I highly recommend...you can't believe some of them!), one side of the street is shaded in the afternoon. And, a lot of hotels are connected by trams.

Have a great time! :D
