Las Vegas Hotels

I still don't get why anyone takes a taxi when uber is available. Taxis should be out of business in cities where Uber operates.

They aren't in Las Vegas. Taxi volume is off 40% since Lyft started. And the taxi revenue is dropping each month. No reason to take taxis when Lyft is so much cheaper and nicer.

There is nothing like the Wynn and Encore, they are SO beautiful. That said, during peak time there is no way on earth we would be able to afford them. However, in December when it's quieter, we get an amazing deal each year. Since we've started staying here, we haven't wanted to stay anywhere else, it's become a big part of our holiday.
I agree about Wynn and Encore. We've also gotten great deals at Bellagio in early December. It's a good time to visit. We've also gotten a good deal or two at Mirage.
We stay in places that are convenient to the other hotels we like to visit and dine at. Personally, we wouldn't bother with someplace like Trump. Too remote. We don't stay at Rio for the same reason.
On the opposite end of the strip, MGM can be nice, as well.
We've not stayed there yet, but one of these days we'll probably try Aria. It's very pretty.

It helps to get on the mailing lists for the hotels about 6 months early. They don't usually send out the best deals quickly. (Or at least in our experience.)

I was over fifty years old before I ever stepped foot in Las Vegas. I grew up on the East Coast and somehow I never made it to Vegas. However, we have been living in Arizona going on eight years now and we're making up for all those years we never went.:rotfl: We're only a four and half hour drive away, so my husband and I go at least three times a year.:bounce:

We've stayed at Mandalay Bay, New York New York, MGM Grand, Caesar's Palace, Mirage, Treasure Island, Harrah's, Flamingo, Hard Rock Hotel, Bally's, Venetian and Encore.

The Encore (sister property to the Wynn) is the nicest, most upscale of the places we've stayed, but I don't care for the location on the strip. It's close to the Fashion Show Mall, but a bit far from center strip. Mandalay Bay is nice, too, but again, way down on the other end of the strip.

Our favorite places to stay are the Mirage and Harrah's. We like their location on the strip and we just feel comfortable in both places.:thumbsup2 We always find the rooms to be very clean and the service great. Caesar's is nice, too.

The only hotel I don't recommend is the Flamingo. We stayed there once and will not go back. It just seemed really old. The rooms were dated and the elevators and hotel corridors were dark and dreary. It reminded us more of an old college dorm than a nice hotel. The corridors seemed narrower than most places and I felt kind of boxed in. I just didn't like the feeling. The casino itself is okay, but I wouldn't stay in the hotel again.

About the Flamingo, it has seen better days. I wonder what the plan is for that place? Tear down? Total renovation? It sits on some prime property.

I think I remember my tour guide saying that the plan was to tear it down and start again.

Interestingly enough, though, there are a few prime developments on the strip that were never completed. Goodness knows what'll happen to them!

I believe the Flamingo is one of the oldest casinos/hotels still in operation on the Strip. Maybe that's why everything looks so old and outdated, because it is!:scared1: There is a lot of interesting history connected to the Flamingo, which I found out about when I took a walk around the wildlife habitat area. It was actually a nice area (with real flamingos :)) that had a lot of signs telling about the history (mobster Bugsy Siegel, secret passageways to an underground garage and other crazy stuff). Back in the 40's and 50's, there were a lot of well-known entertainers that performed at the Flamingo, so lots of history there, too.

When we stayed at the Flamingo, my husband and I went to The Donny and Marie Show one night, which we loved. They put on a wonderful show! We'll go to shows there and eat and gamble there, but we will not stay there again.:scared:

Haven't been since '94. We stsyed at the Imperial Palace (is it still there? LOL). Most people say it's a dump, but they upgraded us to a suite so we enjoyed it :)

It's not still there. First it was the "Quad", now it's the "Linq".

I think it kind of fits into Caeser's model of having different hotels at different price points. It's old, but it's been renovated many times. Bally's is pretty old too. It was the original MGM Grand. I guess it serves a purpose. Now Imperial Palace was just sad.

I'm off to Vegas next week. Meeting some friends but flying in solo. Can someone explain how to take lyft? Where do I go at the airport? Do I "order" one with the app?
