Larry’s Wonderful World Trip Report Day 9

Dear Friend,

Well it was a nice sunny and reasonably warm morning when I woke up and went out for a little walk at six fifty. I had a very pleasurable twenty minutes, enjoying the morning.

I then had a carb free bagel, which seems to have taken over from last years strangled eggs as the breakfast of choice. We decided to go to the opening of Epcot, to ride Space and Test Track, this was Ed’s choice as he hadn’t ridden Test Track yet.

After spending most of yesterday parking and un parking in three Park Car Parks, I decided that we should go by bus today. So we got the bus from the front of the food court. The bus service is actually not too bad from the Pop Century we have not had to wait for more than twenty minutes less on most occasions. They have introduced queuing areas which are out of the shade, so you have a choice, wait in the shade and maybe not get on the bus or queue in the sun. The busses go to all the usual places.

We got to Epcot at about quarter to nine, just in time to do the Welcome Ceremony, now I know just like me, you think sleeping is for wimps and are always out of bed nice and early. But just in case you pass the trip report on to some lazy folk who like to have breakfast at ten am, then I had better tell you that at opening each park has a “Opening Ceremony” at Animal Kingdom you get quite a nice one with the characters on a Land Rover, the one at MGM is a bit boring. As surprisingly is the one at Magic Kingdom. At Epcot this morning I was convinced that the voice welcoming us was Mary from the Comedy Warehouse, I shall have to ask her if I get a chance to talk to her in the next few days. I think it is a sign that you are visiting the “world” a little bit too much when you start to know who the voices are that you hear when you go around the parks.

Well we literally Jogged, behind a cast member on a Segway, to Test Track. Now last year this would have killed me, so I was quite pleased that I could jog that far with only a little bit of a raised heart beat to show for my efforts, You will be shocked and surprised to hear that Test Track was broken down (Sorry experiencing some technical difficulties!!) so we settled for a fastpass for later in the morning. We then legged it over the way to Mission Space, there was a bit of a line already formed, bearing in mind the park had been open a full five minutes. So we waited around ten minutes, to board the Ship to Mars. I thought of Sheri, as her favourite cast member, well her favourite cast member not in Off Kilter, Gary Sinisie (? Spelling, as you know spelling is far from my most amazing ability.) was our Cap Com. The G forces felt quite strong this morning, and I could feel my cheeks wobble, as we went up the launch tower. Well the mission was a success, and we were the first people on Mars, amazing how those droids can build a whole airport all on their own. Technology must have moved on since Beagle, who managed only to emulate a bug splatting a Hummer H2, in 2004 when it went to Mars.

After Space we decided to split up, Jill and The boyz went to see Dory’s Energy Jeopardy thingy. Pal Mickey and me went to innovations to see what mischief we could get up to together, and we had a blast. Then we went for a walk, past the Odyssey Centre, along the front of world showcase, to the edge of Canada, down to the land forecourt, and back to Energy, stopping to watch a High School Choir from Pennsylvania or Maybe Transylvania who sang a very nice song, which Pal Mickey and I Enjoyed.

OK how do you know you are Old? You go around Epcot wanting to find the choirs and annoyed with your self that you have come just before the Flower Festival and not after it. Drat, I’m officially Old.

We met up and did our Fastpass Ride at Test Track, and you know what, the flipping thing broke down again part way through the ride. This is twice in two goes for me now. I am Jinxed. We came off the ride by the coke stand and walked over to World Showcase. We had a bit of a debate about Lunch, Greg and I decided to go to China, for some Chinese Food. Ed and Jill ended up in America.

Greg and I had beef soup, two Spring Rolls, (Egg Rolls, I believe you former colonial friends call them.) and Beef Fried Rice. We entertained ourselves by feeding about five finch or tit type birds with rice grains and peas. They were really nice and very tame, I think they probably get a good living hanging around in China, rice never seems to be able to stay on my plate, so I guess there are lots of scraps to eat for them. One guy was so big and chunky compared with his colleagues that I told him he wasn’t getting any more or he would be too fat to fly and would get squashed by a cast member on a Segway by accident.

We met up with the American Food eaters, and I was told that they sold Sugar and Fat Free Ice Cream but they were out of it, pity. So we decided that we should go to MGM, for some Millionaire fun, just to get my fingers warmed up for when Tom and Leanne arrive.

We took Friendship Five across from the International Gateway to MGM. This took 25 minutes, I always like to get a nice Friendship Trip in every visit. It is a great way to have a break whilst still doing something. The Cast Member who was not driving, you know the one who ties the ropes when they dock etc. Was opening the doors and putting his hand out and feeding birds, they would land on one finger and pick bread from between two others. He had both the male and female Boat Tailed Grackle on his hands, (I’m glad I’ve typed that now, I’ve been remembering that bird all day, I may have spelt it wrong, I’m not hot on spelling!) Anyway, it seems to be Bird Day today. He was trying to make ducks jump to get food but they wouldn’t oblige, but he gave them some food anyway, calling the female duck, “chicken duck”, which seemed funny to me.

Well, we went into the park and went to guest services to find out where they sold Sugar Free Ice Cream, and I went for my first bowl of Ice Cream for four months. And it was quite nice too, they need some sugar free chocolate sauce to go with it. Then it would be really good.

We did two games of WWTBAM one on stand by and one on fastpass. I got onto the leader board three times, and twice in second place, these days I’m always the bridesmaid and never the bride!! Still, I’m showing better form than last year. We enjoyed the games, but left the park afterwards, we are now at the stage of the trip, when we go to parks to do specific things.

We came back to the room to have a rest, I did some email stuff and wrote up 777 words of the trip report, and then went to sleep for forty-five minutes.

It was then time to go for tea, and the up-market restaurant that we chose today was MacDonald’s in Downtown Disney, where I partook of a delightful, except for the brown lettuce, Chicken Crispy thingy in a bun. Which was actually quite tasty. I cheated and had a little Dr Pepper, or the MacDonald’s version anyway. But not a full cup.

We then went over to the west side, I went and looked at some CDs, I almost bought a Beatles CD, but I figured I would order it on Amazon, and have it sent to my home. Like everyone else, I have all this music on LPs and no way to play it anymore. So you buy the music again, which is quite a good thing for the record companies, and they moan about MP3 files……..

We met Tom and Leanne, Kim and Chris outside Disney Quest and the boys went in for their evenings entertainment, and the adults went to Pleasure Island for two shows of the CW. There was a private Party at the Adventures Club until 9pm. So no hanging around there then.

We met Sue and Leesa during the first show and said Hi. And we sat with them for the second show which was nice, it is always great to spend time with our Floridian Chums every trip, and we always look forward to it. And we have enough of us to have our very own Magical Gathering. We always go for lunch at LeCellier, and that is tomorrow.

I enjoyed both of the shows, the first one was hard work for the cast as the audience were a bit er…. Stupid, but it made for a good show, and the second one was good too.

Well tomorrow is going to be fun, not only a nice tradition for lunch but also the Disney Yard Sale at Celebration. Who know what I may go home with.

Well thanks for reading this far. I enjoyed writing it for you.

See you tomorrow, up bright and early, to go bargain hunting.

Cheers Larry your Pal in Scotland.

Larry,
I am also doing the low carb dieting. I would have cheated with French Fries, so I think you were very good by only cheating with Dr. Pepper! Sounds like you and your family are having a great time.

I found DQ last year and my DS is really looking forward to going again in June!

I'm glad your trip is a long one, I'll hate when you have to go home because I have really enjoyed reading them!
