Larry’s Wonderful World Trip Report Day 4

28th March 2004.

Dear Friend,

Well I don’t know about you, but I’m impressed that here we are on day four and we are still getting up at six am, in order to do the early entry. Today is Magic Kingdom, after the usual morning activities, being grumpy, yawning, arguing over who should go for the drinks that kind of thing, we are members of the wide awake club, and set off for the bus stop, myself having a breakfast of four grapes. I told you I was on a diet.

There was quite a queue at the bus stop, and today was showing, very accurately as it turned out that, an early entry day on a Sunday at the Magic Kingdom is going to be somewhat of a busy one. Later in the day I took a photo of about three million people walking up from the Haunted Mansion towards Splash Mountain, which I shall call “quite day in the kingdom”.

The bus journey was uneventful and we got through security, which rather impressively left two tables un-staffed so we walked through those and skipped bag search. (I wonder if any bad guys could figure out that little wheeze or is it just us nice people that clever?)

Well we dashed up Main Street USA, which is always a shame, because strolling up Main St, and soaking up the atmosphere is a bit of a pleasure. The reason for the haste was a desire to bag some Fastpasses for Buzz, and to get into the space queue, as it happens we decided to do the Speedway, as as you know this has Stinky Pete lines and to get it as a walk on is always a bonus. Jill drove the car I was in, and you could see why Alamo want extra for her to be on the car hire contract, to be fair they are totally uncontrollable. After this we wandered over to Fantasy Land and we did the tea cups, and to be honest it was far far too early in the morning to experience the thrills of the wash cycle, so we swiftly moved on to The many adventures of W. Poo. Well I decided not just to let the experience wash over me like I normally do on attractions and I followed the story line, as much as there is a storyline, ok here it goes.

It is windy, they nearly all blow away, it is rainy, they nearly all wash away, in fact Piglet does, and his mates rescue him, except for Mr Poo, who is stuffing his face with honey in a tree! So Poo may have many adventures but he isn’t a hero. (Next week I am going to un-ravel the storyline of It’s a small world – do you have a Universal Translator I could borrow?)

We then carried on into Frontier land and the lines were building up, so we did Big Thunder as this had a less scary looking line than Splash, which will have to wait for another day, we like to do this ride with Tom and Leanne, so we may save it for then.

We were sat in the front of the Big Thunder train, you really have to go to the back of the train for this one, believe me, it makes a big difference, but it is always fun to ride, and today was no exception. I wasn’t quite in my shout “Yee Haw” kinda mood that I am normally am, I think I had been in too many lands, to really enjoy MK I think you need to stay in one land for a while, absorb the vibe and generally think your self into the role, Kinda Method Theme Parking…… “Ok What is my motivation here?”

On the way out of Frontier Land, I suggested either Haunted Mansion, or the Hall of the Presidents, suggesting that HotP was maybe better for when the park is more busy in the afternoon, Edward said “ I will do the Hall of the Presidents – When a Meteor Strike has wrecked all the other attractions”

So Haunted Mansion it was, Greg and I had our usual debate – Roof Rising Vs Floor Falling, conclusion, Roof Rises in Florida, and Floor Falls in Paris. The ride was as fun as usual, though one spooky thing happened, Pal Mickey buzzed during the ride and said a comment about a ghost playing the organ, the first time he has chirped inside a ride. Naughty Mickey!

Back to the Future next and we did the TTA and Carousel of Progress, which are two old favourites, and I always like to do those two. You just know that they will do away with them at some point and I always have to ride them, as if they ever go I will be so cross if I miss riding them. One sad thing was there is a rip in one of the curtains in the COP, in the bits to the side where the incidental scenes take place and it is so badly repaired, It sure isn’t invisible mending and it does detract from the show. Having said that I felt that MK looks very ***** and span at the moment and I haven’t found any thing to fuel any of you doom and gloomers reading this, fortunately.

Well it was time help out our fellow Space Rangers and big boy Buzz, to defeat the Evil Emperor Eisner, sorry Zurg and so we went into battle, and quite frankly Zurg isn’t going to loose any sleep over the feeble efforts that I put up! Though Greg gave the bad guys a bit of a pasting.

Well time for lunch and where else but fixing bar heaven, Cosmic Rays, I was hoping to catch Sonny Eclipse’s little show but the boys wouldn’t sit in that section, so I had to settle for the delights of a nice burger with some lovely fried onions and mushrooms in a more quite setting. It was a shame I love “Bright little Star”, it’s my favourite crooner tune.

Following Luncheon we went and did Space Mountain, passing the Hewitt High School, New York, Mixed Choir, singing some patriotic song I hadn’t heard before but the crowd lapped it up and give em a rousing cheer! So if it keeps the paying customers happy, then that must be a good thing. Space was great, and using a fastpass was greater still, you really do notice the benefit there, as that is one seriously long line you get to walk by. I enjoyed Space, it was good practice for Busch Gardens tomorrow, it is a small coaster, very traditional, but boy does the bugger chuck you into the corners……… G-tastic, if you ask me.

Well that was it for the morning session at the MK, more to come later….. just be patient.

Well we went to the Contempory on the monorail, so that the boys could get all nautical, Greg did the Sammy Duval Sports Centre Jet Ski thing, and he had a fantastic time, Greg has a motorbike now, and he loves that kind of thing, so wet motor biking was just up his street. And you as a regular reader will know that Ed has been desperate to do the water sprites for years but was too small, well a year of making him eat those greens has paid off dividends because today was the day that the boy got to do his dream and took a sprite out for an hour on his own. Rights of passage et al, they grow up too quick, they really do.

Anyway not only did he enjoy it but he has been euphoric for the rest of the day, cloud ten, never mind nine!

So once the salty sea dogs had done there thing, we went back to the MK for some more fun, and did the Tiki Birds and the Hall of Presidents, (Not Ed who refused, having checked and as all the other rides were intact, he wasn’t doing HotPs for love nor money)

One of the joys of the second visit was we arrived just at parade time and managed to get a spot out side the station, we hadn’t planned it and it was a great bonus. As was me watching the Dapper Dans later in the visit. I really like those guys, and I must have my hair cut there one day.

Well following the full day of fun at the MK, we rounded off the trip out with a meal at Ohanas, now I thought that this was O’ Hanas an Irish Bar and ordered a Guinness and a Meat Pie, but it turned out to be Polynesian , so I had the Pineapple Flavoured Everything, and it was a veritable feast, but being the health conscious person that I am these days I showed great restraint and didn’t pig out too much, and I was really brave and peeled my own Prawns (Shrimp). The last time I had shelled prawns, I was too scared of the dead bodies and got Kevin Rushforth to peel them for me in the Rainforest Café at Downtown Disney.

I am a new man, but I am also a tired one, so I will say, thanks for reading, I love writing for you.

See you Tomorrow, where it is a trip off world to Busch Gardens, something tells me it will be a quite day for Pal Mickey.

Cheers Larry.

Your Pal from Scotland.

I hope they don't get rid of TTA and Carousel, they are too classic. But I don't know the last time that I was there when COP was open.

Another great report!

I am enjoying your "real time" trip report....thanks for taking the time to write them while on holiday!

I'm so glad you are writing your trip reports each day and then posting them. I look forward to reading tomorrow's report too!
