Larrys Wonderful World Trip Report Day 3
27th March 2004.
Dear Friend,
Today was another lets go and get em, kind of day, getting up early to do early entry being the main cornerstone of the cunning plan. So I was in bed by nine thirty last night, and I woke up just about six am. I didnt have enough time to work on the trip report, so it was sort out the ablutions, go get the morning drinks, as we are so close to the food court, I actually dont mind going for them.
The food court at the Pop Century is combined with the shop and the indoor bar, they dont have one of those at the All Stars. It looks nice and fresh and the seating area is much more pleasant than those of the All Starz with areas broken up and it looking less like a High School Canteen.
All things being even, ie the cost being the same, at the moment I would choose the Pop Century, the reason being. It is new and sparkly, there is no other people to share the busses with, unlike the A-Stars where all three parts often share the same transport, and it is closer to almost all the parks, with the exception of the Animal Kingdom. On the down side the styling is Naff. Ok the styling is Naff at the All Stars as well, but it is like they have seriously done all the good ideas at the three All Stars so they are scraping the bottom of the barrel a bit here. Still the 70s 40ft high Mickey Mouse Phone is quite cute. I think the other half the Old Timers Years will be more interesting, lets face it there isnt anything terribly interesting about 8 track tapes. They werent interesting in 1974 Maybe the 1940s 40ft high Atom Bombs will provide a cultural high spot.
So we rushed out of the room, and got to the bus stop by seven thirty, the parks are quite busy, Ive seen them worse, but if you want to get on the bigger rides and attractions you need to get your bottoms out of bed, and make the most of Magic Surprise Entry Morning Caravan or whatever it is called these days. We did just that, we were at MGM just as the opening music was playing. I being the newly created Lithe Larry, dashed selfishly to the ToT fastpass machine and got four Fastpasses, and then we met up and went on Rock And Roller Coaster. There is something seriously weird about riding Roller Coasters at Eight O Clock in the morning, I mean, WHY? Roller Coasters are an evening or afternoon thing, but hey we have a plan and we are sticking to it. And you have to admit Rock and Roller Coaster is a mighty fine thing, I was so loving being upside down and listening to Love in an Elevator, blasting in my ears. (Now there is a thought!!)
After this we were still too early for out ToT fastpass and there was a 30 minute queue there, and by then it was only twenty past eight. It is seriously a bad idea to go to the Early Entry Park, if you are not a resort guest, dont do it and if you do, remember you were warned so it isnt my fault. So we went for a tour to Endor with Star Tours, It was still abit early for Star Tours as well, but at least we hadnt had any breakfast so it wasnt too bad. I actually quite enjoyed it, which is good because it isnt a particular favourite of mine, Im too engrossed in the lore of Star Trek, so anything to do with Star Wars feels like Im being a traitor.
It still wasnt nine by then, but we were cracking on with things, we went next door and did Muppet 3D, and I enjoyed that too, thinking, to myself, Hey here I am at WDW again, and despite this, here I am going on rides I have done lots of times and I am really enjoying them. Which is I submit, quite nice. And a good job too, because Im back again in three months time.
I was thinking about you as well during the show, there is one part where Waldo, the cartoon 3d thingy, points his nose at you and says, Everyone in here thinks that this is pointing at them, but it is just pointing at you. And it reminded me about this trip report, everyone thinks it is for them, but you know it is just for you!
After Muppetvision we were feeling a bit peckish, so I went to get a second set of TOT fastpasses, and the rest of the gang went and got breakfast at the ABC Commissionary This little spot is becoming a favourite but just at breakfast time, they do quite nice grub, sadly because of the evil bogies that I have got these days I had to give the cinnamon toast a miss, but I pinched an inch of Eds just for old times sake.
By then it was almost time for our appointment with fear, at the Tower of Terror, sadly I had decided not to bring Pall Mickey3 and it is a shame, coz he moans like heck if you take him on ToT. There was quite a line, for ToT and it was a pleasure to sail past it in the fastpass line. The ride was as much fun as ever, and we were happy to do the ride a second time, 20 minutes after starting the first trip. One thing that struck me as strange was that the tower sequence was exactly the same on both trips. I dont know what happened to the tower decides, I shall have to go and check out a few more trips, what a sacrifice I am prepared to make just to keep you informed on what is what in the world.
Well time for a little mental simulation, so where else but Who Wants to be a Millionaire. And this turned out to be a really great show, and no I wasnt in the hot seat, I have lost my touch there, though I did get on the leader board at one point. The show was great for other reasons, first of all the floor manager was really funny, I miss seeing Mary and Regis, but cutting out that segment makes for a more fun introduction where the floor manager in particular has more of a focus and can interact with the audience better.
Then the fun began, first of all a guy from Miami got into the hot seat with his fastest finger, and managed to get the first question wrong, oh how humiliated, he must have felt, even a cruel type like me felt sorry for him, especially after the host had told him his socks were far too long, which they were and pulled them down.
So we politely clap the chap as he takes his walk of shame. Sorry wrong show! Then a woman from Alaska does reasonably well, but without being very interesting, but there is time for a third person, and who is selected from the audience in spot one, but the first guys wife, who promptly wins 32,000 and a very sexy polo shirt, (I know Ive got one .ha ha.) In the process much more humiliation is put on the husband, which the wife was clearly enjoying, I half suspect that they are divorced by now.
Well after this, we go to see, The Little Mermaid, which normally men only go to under protest, but I dont mind seeing, because I have as serious big crush on Ariel, as you probably know. She is one sexy chick if you ask me. Slightly lacking in the leg department which is a bit of a shame, but you cant have everything I suppose. Anyway, I enjoyed the show, but by then the little legs were getting tired and my extremely lovely knees had had enough of standing up, so we retired from MGM.
We went back to Pop to pick up the automobile, and went to find a supermarket so we could buy some fruit and stuff. We got seriously lost on the 192, and ended up spending an hour driving the wrong way for 10 miles or so, heading away from WDW, only to have to drive back again. Mind you it did serve to tell me, that I wouldnt want to stay in Motel 22, Norman Bates Lodge, especially as Pop with an AP discount is almost the same cost as many of the sad looking motels advertise.
By the time we got back we were a bit peckish, so Jill and I went to the food court and split a Panini and a Caesar Salad. We then went for a quick blast around Epcot, doing Spaceship Earth, Mission Space, Its a Small Burrito and Maelstrom Many have Passed this Way, (Well they have passed through the movie without stopping anyway.) And then it was a ride back on the cattle truck bus to Pop and a nice bowl of prepared fruit.
Well that is it for today, hope you enjoyed reading about it, if you did then there will be another episode tomorrow and If you didnt, well, Im sorry but never mind, Kevin Stringer will be posting a funny one quite soon.
Cheers Larry.
