If someone has a particularly long RV, are there loops designed to handle those units? Or are there just some long camping spots spread throughout the Fort?

Seems last time we went in 2008, the 700 loop was full of really long motorhomes. Maybe that was just a coincidence.

The premium all have longer pads. But, there are longer sites in each loop.

We always request loop 100, and even though most of the sites are long enough to accommodate long rigs (depends on your tow vehicle also) we have had a few issues with backing in our 32' MH. Some people tend to over park on their site - taking in part of the road - and it can make for tight squeezes to back - or even to drive through. Most people are considerate though.

So, for longer rigs, it's almost a trial and error for some sites - placement of trees, other vehicles, etc. but I've seen them on all the premium, preferred loops.

Our toy hauler is almost 45' long. 2006 we stayed in 209 and 2008 we stayed in 533. I can't imagine getting this thing in any 100 or 200 site. 533 was tough with our 30' TT but the people across from us had a vehicle getting all in our way.

But as you said, the trees, vehicles, trash cans, etc. play a large part in this.

You're correct, Barney Fife. Trying to fit your rig into most sites in the first two loops especially, would be a difficult, if not impossible, maneuver. Like I said, sometimes it's even difficult to 'drive' through, let alone trying to back into a site with the inconsiderate way some people park their vehicles.

One year we were leaving and almost couldn't make it out of our loop because of two vehicles on opposite sides taking some space in the roadway. We 'squeaked' through but my dh was not too happy a camper! LOL Of course neither of them were 'at home' so couldn't ask them to please move their vehicles. :(

My personal choice would be loop 600 in the lower numbers. This is the new section added to the 600 loop and the sites are long and not many trees or shrubs for backing in. Also you should have room to park your TV.

Barney,

To be safe request a Premium site which are the widest and longest sites at the Fort. 45 feet is a good sized RV.

The App aforementioned is only good for the two minutes once you check in at the Fort and know your site number. You can request a loop or a specific site but you never know if you get it till you get there. So the app is of limited use.

Even so, as others say you can get into other types of sites (Preferred or Full for example) with only a little more effort. Plus if a site is simply NOT possible you can call the Fort front desk and request to be assigned a new site over the phone (been there, done that) and you can drive right down to it and back in. So if you see a site you like on the way to yours, it CAN be yours if you call (from the nearest Comfort Station for example).

So don't stress over it, you'll be fine. :rolleyes1

We have camped in loop 100 and camped in 700 in 2007. My husband asked for 700 this summer 2013. He feels like its easier to back into than loop 100 but we have seen big campers in 100. It is a good section because it doesn't loop in a circle like 100. I don't have any idea if this is true, nor do I remember it, but I read section 700 used to be cabins and thats why it doesn't loop around. Bad thing to me about loop 700 is that you have to share bath house across the road with loop 400. So I don't like that about it!

I wrote down campsite numbers last time I was there that would be good sites but who knows were that paper is now!

700, 400, and 500 all share the same comfort station, between 400 and 500 and across the street from 700. 600 also does not have its own CS. I believe it share with 800, on the 800 side of the road.

They ask you, how long and how many slides. My brother has a 45 foot tag and no problem. Our 35 foot fits also no problem. Its the slides you need the wider lot for so you clear the pines when open.

The 'length' of all the sites are fairly long, but because of the bend in the roads, plus obstructions, and 'width' of sites, it's next to impossible to back long rigs in place in some areas, sometimes tight even with shorter rigs. Then when people park their tow vehicles, they sometimes take part of the street, making it even more difficult to maneuver.

Our 5er is 40', and my parents is 38'.

We stay premium to avoid issues. All of those sites are long and wide enough for our 5 slides.

My parents have stayed preferred in the 100/200 loops. One year they had an issue getting into a spot in the back of the 200 loop - mostly because the people across had their truck parked partially on the road. (They ultimately got moved to a different site.) Ever since that year, they too stay premium.
