larger guests and rides

Are there certain rides that larger guests have difficluty riding? I have a friend going to WDW with her son who is 6' 5" and over 300 pounds. She doesn't want him to wait in line only to find out that he is too large for the ride.

Not sure about DW but when I was at US and IOA with my girlfriend ( she is a large women) she wasn't able to fit in the seats of the two rollercoasters. I felt very bad for her, she was very embarassed. Any kind of ride where you need to pull the thing down over your head to lock yourself in might be a problem. Hope this helped.

DH and I are large, and I have trouble riding rollercoasters at US and IOA, even if I get one of the seats that's "made" for larger folks. At WDW, however, I have never had any trouble fitting into any seat, including RnR where the restraint comes down over your head. After several trips to US/IOA and many many trips to WDW, I have concluded that WDW rides are much more friendly to large people than US/IOA rides are!

I must agree with the above post. I weigh in at 300 pounds and had no problem riding anything. Wasn't even close to not fitting.

Universal does seem to have a little less tolerance but I was able to do whatever I wanted there as well.

the allears.net site has pics of many of the ride vehicles, as well as some trip reports from plus size people.

It really helped calm my nerves before our first trip.

That being said, I have never had a problem riding anything at WDW. The only thing is sometimes I have to turn sideways through the turnstiles. But then again I see many people doing that! Those things are small and uncomfortable.

At US/IOA, I don't recall having any problems there either.
I didn't ride the big coasters, but did take my daughter on the Woody Woodpecker coaster and the Flying Unicorn and had no problems.

If you are still curious about this issue, I'd recommend visiting the disABILITIES! board because Disney for the "pooh sized" folk is often discussed there.

Well, I'm 5'11", 350 lbs (and losing ) and I had absolutely no problems on any ride, and we did all the biggies, including all the Mountains, Rock 'n Roller Coaster, etc. The tightest fit was Space Mountain, but I still made it just fine... just avoid the front seat in either car if you are tall-- there's not much leg room.

The only rides at Disney with an overhead harness are Rock 'n Roller Coaster and Mission:Space. RnRC was no problem at all for me-- I probably could have weighed 30 or so pounds more and been ok-- seems like it was designed for us "pooh sized" folks in mind. M:S I haven't been on, but I've heard that it was OK too. I guess I'll find out for myself in a few weeks.

Tell your friend that her son should have no problem "fitting in" at WDW.

I am 6'1", 300 lbs and did not have a problem at Disney. At Disney Quest I did have a problem in the design your on roller coaster as I did not fit in the ride part, the shoulder thing hit the top of my shoulders and would not lock. As far as space Mountain, as another has said, take the 2nd or 3rd seat, your feet will fit up the sides of the chair in front of you.

The first time I went to WDW, I could of look at
him eye to eye and matched him pound for pound.
I rode everything just fine and never felt out of place.
Seems like I did have to suck up a just a little to ride space
mountain, but I did just fine.

I have the perfect match! My DH is 6'7" and 350# and we went to WDW last October (and are going again in May!). You've heard from the Pooh sized people, now for the Jack Skellington height perspective. Here are the things we rode without a problem.

Now, we haven't tried a LOT of things. Big Thunder mountain was under rehab last time, we'll do that this time, and I haven't tried Space mountain with him yet. But as you can see, there's still plenty of things to ride, do, and see for the tall Pooh people! I hop ehe has a GREAT time!
