Does anyone have any suggestions on a stroller that would work for a larger child. My youngest will be 5 this year and he tires out easy. I was considering not bringing a stroller to Disney this year, but now I'm not so sure. We have a basic umbrella (hasn't been used in over a year) and a regular stroller that came as a combo with his infant carseat. We still use that occasionally, but his knees almost hit the tray with his feet are on the foot rest, otherwise, his feet are about an inch off the ground when he dangles them.

Follow the link in my signature for the disABILITIES FAQs thread ( or look near the top of this board). Post 2 of that thread is about renting mobility devices. If you scroll toward the end of that post, you will find some links to places that rent special needs strollers.

We use a Maclaren Major Elite. It is very much like an umbrella stroller, just a little bigger. It supposedly would hold a child up to 110lbs (some reviews state 140lbs but I think that is really pushing it), and my 8yo DD fits just fine. It's not overly supportive so if your child has other issues and really needs a supportive stroller, this might not be appropriate, but for "tires easily" which is also my DD's issue it is perfect. Folds up, my husband put a strap on it so we could even fold and carry it over the shoulder when not using it. Goes on buses easily. Lightweight. Try eBay or other re-use sites for special needs to get a good deal - purchased new it is quite expensive.

How big is your child? My son is 50lbs and just now hit 4 ft. until this last growth we used a citi mini and he fit very well. Toys r us has many on display and you can always put your child in it to see how well they fit. If they have a citi mini on display you can try it out and then if it fits you can rent one from orlando stroller so you dont get stuck purchasing one. As the PP have said you can also rent a larger special needs stroller, but they do tend to cost more.

We took our Maclaren Volo last year to DL, my DD was almost 8. I think it's rated for up to 55lbs. It's lightweight easy to take along and it also has a strap to carry. You can't go wrong with Maclaren IMO.

We have a Graco Ipo umbrella stroller. Max weight is 55lbs. We just used it this weekend at sea world and my 7 yr old dd rode in it with no problems. We have had it for a couple yrs now and love it. Also reclines so the kids like that so they can nap in it too.

I love our citi mini! It folds so great and has a great recline too for napping.

Thanks for all the 'reviews' I will look at each of the different strollers. I'm also making a trip to BabiesRus next week and will look at a few there.

I'm not too concerned about the weight limits. While he's almost 5 and quite tall, he barely weighs 37lbs on a good day. My biggest problem is his height/length. That, and the basic umbrella is too narrow shoulder to shoulder. He looks squished as if its closing in on him!

I know I need something that reclines as he would rather be laying back while in a stroller.

That's again for the suggestions.

We bought a First Years Ignite for DS5. He has low muscle tone and tires more easily than typical kids his age, so the stroller was important to us.

DS was about 43 in and 36 lbs on our last trip. He fit in the stroller fine, even when it was reclined. He even took a few naps in te stroller - much to our surprise!

Thank you! I'm going to be doing some research this week and stop by BabiesRUs on Friday to use up some gift cards and check out what they have. We have some outlet stores around here, as well so I will be doing some price comparisons. Need to go on a day I can take him with me so he can 'try them out' to see how he measures up. He's right at the same height/weight as your DS so I will definitely be on the look out for that stroller, too. :)

Check out the Combi stroller's too! Our kids still fit in them at ages 5 and 7.

Little man had a dr appt and therapy today so we took the 2 hrs between to do some stroller shopping and eat lunch....

He is very picky! Pickier than I thought! His stroller HAS to have a canopy that comes way down. As he was sitting in each one he would pull down the shade and his exact words were "this isn't 'safe' enough" to the vast majority! He wants to feel 'safe' when he's riding!

That doesn't give me a huge amount of choices, but while I was at BabieRus, there was an announcement on my receipt about the trade in coming up! That might work to my advantage! Found an awesome deal on a carseat 2 years go! Now, let me see what I can find on sale!!

The baby jogger city elite goes up to 75 pounds and would work with a taller child. This stroller is rented by at least one Orlando area place if you don't want to buy a stroller just for the trip. I am looking into renting this stroller myself.

Awesome!

I will look into it. I know last year we needed a double to carry my nephew as well and after looking a prices we ended up buying an almost new (couldn't even tell it was ever used) sit 'n stand for around $60 on craigslist. Way cheaper than we could have rented. As soon as we got back, I loaned it to my BFF and now she wants to buy it from me! Too bad that won't happen again this year.

Oh, and I also for got. The two he really took to was the City Mini - he loved the shade and when asked which color he picked the all black. Said it was darker in there! LOL I just can't justify the cost of brand new though. That's crazy and I looked, it's not going to be included in the Trade In sale at BabiesRus either. bummer.

And the new stroller is.....

Baby Jogger City Mini. This was just about the only one he was happy with the canopy!

Best part: I found one for $149 that was brand new still in the box at Essex.
Why? Probably because its a 2012 model. LOL!!! I didn't want to wait to see if it would get marked down anymore.

Now, I just need to find a parent console/cup holder and maybe a child tray.
