Large Price Increases on Beverages

Honestly if this was a standalone thing, Id laugh that there was a thread about it this. But its not, they've increased prices and cut costs on a lot of things recently.

Face it, they are scrambling to make the next quarterly report look good. That's all they care about, the next quarterly report.

NASCAR allows drinks, beer, water, soda, etc plus any food you can fit in your cooler.. You can bring a cooler as long as it fits under your seat. Plus, parking is FREE at NASCAR.. now if you purchase from Vendors at a NASCAR race you can expect to pay typical sporting event vendor prices but for the most part, NASCAR is the cheapest of the big sporting events to attend..

I don't pay much attention to the price of soda or drinks at WDW. I typically drink water just because. I might have one soda during my entire trip.. of course the kids have soda when we sit down to eat but we have used the Dining plan on most trips.

Companies have to make money and keep shareholders happy. As long as the gates are packed, they are not gonna change their strategy to increase revenue..

I'm not arguing Disneys pricing, it doesn't bother me either way. And not all bad car venues are that way, Sears point in ca has restrictions to the cooler rule of how much you can bring in, and you cannot bring alcohol. Alcohol is where nascar gets you on the price gouging.

I don't think I paid separately for a non-alcoholic drink last trip to WDW.

We order supply from GG, including bottled water. With refillable mugs, snack credits and the Business Class lounge at CSR I don't recall paying for a drink. So this has no impact on our vacation at all.

This will impact the offsite guest, not the well organised onsite guests.

I disagree.

We're well organized, carry water in the parks in our camelbaks and yet on our last 2 trips still had to purchase milks for our little ones. So yes, a small impact, but it would have still been an increase for us.

I haven't been to Sears point but you can bring canned beer into all NASCAR venues in the SOUTHEAST>> I been to 'em all.. well, most..

Years ago, back when i went to races, we'd stop and get a bucket of chicken and drag that it in with our cooler full of beer. We ate chicken and drank beer all race long.

I very rarely spent money on food at the track.

Flip side of that, I have also worked concession stands at Atlanta and Charlotte for different groups, the tracks allow groups to come in, work the booths, and let them keep some of the money for fundraising.

Disney doesn't do that haha.

Not trying to argue here, but I think this is a bit different. Go to a sporting event and you are only subjected to those high prices for a couple hours. Unless you are a Florida local resident, folks that go to WDW are "captives" for days. To me, that's a big difference.

Nope not captive, go to Walmart, do a garden grocer order and buy drinks in. We do never ever buy drinks in the parks.

Even if you consider one day, there's a big difference between sitting on your butt for 2-3 hours at a sporting event and walking 4-8 miles on asphalt in 95 degree humid heat for 10-12 hours at Disney...in one place, you can get by with a few sips of water at a water fountain - in the other, you're gonna need 1-2 gallons of fluid replacement.

Our local Zoo, where we would spend a day walking charges more than WDW does for drinks, in fact so does our local malls.

You disagree that it will have no impact on our trip? Lol

We would never go without FD so the odd time another drink is needed its a snack credit.

I think the person was disagreeing with how you said it won't affect the well organized on site guest.

Also so if Disney didn't do FD you wouldn't go? FD especially now doesn't necessarily save a lot of money. This years promotion was incredibly limited.

They will charge what the market will bear. The parks and resorts are full. As long as people can and will pay the high costs, they will continue to increase them. If the market somehow gets increased competition and customers start leaving for better experiences and prices elsewhere, the prices will stabilize, even come down.

Although I'm ambivalent to the price increases and don't really want to argue their justification, I don't think "bring your own" is a practical response for many people.

- Travelling by air with several days worth of groceries in not really doable.
- Where would people get their groceries? I'm sure there are some available on site, but I've never looked.
- Are these groceries priced reasonably? Is there a reasonable selection?
- If you didn't plan to stay in a room with a kitchen, you'll need to upgrade - which is just a different additional cost.

Also, going to a sporting event can take place between meals. You don't have that option for a multi-day Disney stay.

The only real option to combat the high prices is to just not go.

When my family and I travel we do all the things you just mentioned.

- We fly from NH on Southwest (two free bags each) so we bring a duffel bag full of food including: muffins, snack bars, pasta, bacon (freeze it right before you leave and is thawed by the time you get there) bagels, etc. That negates paying for breakfast at the parks and dinners some nights.
- We will by eggs and milk at the little store at the resort. We also buy the one liter water bottles and a gallon or two jugs. Drink the water bottles during the day, and then fill them up throughout the day. At night fill them halfway up with water, put them in the freezer, and in the morning fill the rest of the bottle up with water. Wrap them in washcloths and put them in a backpack. Water stays cold all day because the ice doesn't melt all the way (most of the time) and will also keep the lower back cool of the person carrying said backpack.
- Prices are about normal of what you would find at a grocery store for the milk and eggs, maybe a little more expensive, but the water is about 5 bucks a bottle for the liter, but you don't have to buy a drink the rest of the trip (unless you want soda or something else).
- Parents are DVC members so we always have a kitchen though so it's more cost effective for us to do those things.

Total savings is easily a couple hundred dollars for a week which can go a long way.

The idea of packing frozen bacon to take on an airplane is so hardcore! I am in awe of your mad skills!

Not on the west coast tracks I've been to sadly. (Sears pointe, Las Vegas, Phoenix) I believe Phoenix allows if you camp at the track tho.
