I tried to get ADR for a group of 10 and couldn't get any good times but they offered me 2 tables.

Has anyone done this and were you successful if you contacted the restaurant ahead of time or when you've shown up and gotten the tables together?

We had a group of 17 people. We were seated in 3 cars, in a row, at Sci-Fi and at 3 tables in a triangle at Chef Mickey's. We didn't make any special requests other than the reservation for 17. We were just as happy with separate tables and were still able to enjoy the meals together and talk.

We were told that large groups can only be seated together at one table during the first and last half hour of seating during a meal.

We've done this a couple of times. Every time we have been seated next to each other. :)
If you are worried about it, just remind the CM at the podium about wanting the tables together.

ETA- this included our last trip when we had a party of 6 and then 2 people wanted to join us. We needed to have a particular dining time so I had to make a separate ressie for them. Their ressie was 15 minutes earlier than ours and the CM said for our party to get there at the same time as the other people and let the CM at the door know. We were sat next to each other.
