Large Fire In San Diego: Not a good DLR day.

My Prayers and :tink:Pixie Dust go out to everyone being affected by these horrible fires in So Cal. I can't imagine going through what you all are right now.:sad2: Stay safe! May rain find it's way soon to you and the winds die down alot!

Thanks for the thoughts and wishes both here and in game everyone. So far, we are "all good," but closely watching the fires movement.

:cool1: To all the firefighters out there! You are our hope against nature's force. :cool1:

To all others in range of any of the fires :grouphug:

Ok, so the third day of the fire (Tuesday) and I get a phone call from my school saying that i now have the whole WEEK off. I really hope this fire ends >_<.

Once again, thanks for all your kind wishes everyone! If anyone is getting any rain, bring it this way pronto! ;)

But I need the rain here :( Maybe some of it can go your way but not all of it.

Btw best wishes from a former SoCal Gal ( I lived in Huntington Beach when I was 3 and remember stories of the fires I somehow even remember seeing the fires on the tv then too).

I had a little bit of a wild fire scare here in Georgia a few weeks ago. The fire came within 10 yards of my backyard. I was asleep the whole time until the fire was out! Nobody knew who called the fire station either! The firefighters said that if they had gotten the call 15 minutes later that my house and the entire side of the hill in my neighborhood would have been up in flames. The drought is just that bad here.

Without a So. Cal. geography lesson, there are 3 major areas that are being affected by fire. Malibu, San Diego, Orange County.

For clarification (since I live in Santa Clarita), a large portion of the fires have been out here too. I've honestly lost count of how many we've had, but I believe it's at about five now. I forget what the names of all of them were aside from the "Magic Fire", but in addition to that there was also at least one in Saugus, one in Castaic, one in Canyon Country, and then some awful person tried to start ANOTHER one where the 14 and 5 meet. The Magic Fire, last I heard, had no containment and was headed out towards Ventura. It's called that, by the way, because of Magic Mountain. So I would recommend if anyone was planning on going to Magic Mountain in addition to Disneyland avoid that because there is nothing but smoke out here. Sigh. My poor city has gotten quite the beating these past couple weeks. Between all these fires and then that freeway disaster that happened it's been pretty bad out here. I'm just so glad that we haven't had to evacuate at this point. Because of where we live, everytime there have been fires out here we've had to evacuate, but this time there amazingly haven't been any RIGHT near my street.

Yes I hope you all are ok over there! Some lady who lost the malibu castle worth 17 million in value!!! It was about to be sold this friday before the fire.

A former teacher of my mother's actually used to own that house. My mother had been to it once back then. So when my mom found out what happened, she was really disappointed.

Omg it's been raining here for 3 days! My school court yard was flooded! I kept saying I wish the rain would come to SoCal so the fires would stop. I'm from kentucky btw. Hey WHS you live in georgia? You might actually see some rain if it moves south east. So here's hoping it comes to you

Ok, a change of the wind saved my town from a evacation and some blue skies are about, but there is still some dry heat ash in the air.

I'm glad to hear that everything is working out (at least to some degree). At least you can stay in your home.

Continued good luck to everyone affected by the fires!

Hi Carter!

Glad to hear some good news.....I hope it continues to look good for you and your family. Keep us posted. You are in our thoughts.

Very true. Many more areas are affected right now. It's just a scary, tense time in so many areas. No clue what the latest count is. It changes to fast to keep track.

Hope everyone is staying safe.

ok, it seems that mainly the fires are died out. There is a small sense of burning still in the air (maybe i adapted to it or something) but mainly there are now faint blue skies:). Thanks everyone for your support.

Yay! :cool1: Happy to hear that your area has controlled.

We are still watching the fire movement very closely here, as I know many others are as well. Been hearing helicopters and planes with water all day long. sigh. Tense day.

Hope everyone out there is still doing well. Ace, happy your area has calmed

This is my first chance to get back on DIS since the fires started. Lots of crazy stuff going on here in San Diego and to the north of us.

Even though these fires were much bigger in area than the previous fires of 2003, our area was not impacted as much as then. There was still plenty of smoke for sure and ash too.

We tried to evacuate to Anaheim (our home away from home) on Monday afternoon. But driving north on the 5 was horrible and congested with traffic. The smoke was filtering into the car even though we had our a/c system on recirculate and had heavy duty masks covering our noses and mouths. 3 of the 4 of us have asthma and we were feeling the effects of the smoke. We ended up turning around and heading back home but I didn't sleep much that night.

We were sent home early from work on Tuesday and the freeways had lightened up a bit so we tried again and successfully arrived in Anaheim. We stayed at the Portofino Inn in a kid's suite. Not too bad and the price was not that bad either, but not the best room we've ever stayed in.

We caught up on some sleep and visited Disneyland between 6-8:30pm. It was very hot even at night and kinda uncomfortable. We met some other people who had been evacuated from Lake Arrowhead. I guess we weren't the only ones who thought - "You've just been evacuated from your home, what are you going to do now?" "We're going to Disneyland, woohoo!";)

Early this morning my husband decided to get back to San Diego only to find the 5 freeway closed! The kids and I were going to stay another night but I got a call from my boss asking me to come in to work and he laughed when I told him we were stuck in Anaheim. I don't think he believed me... He let me know that the freeway had reopened heading south so my husband jumped in his car and headed out. He called about 30 minutes later to say that there was fire all along a stretch of the freeway on his left side on Camp Pendleton. We also ran into this when we followed down a couple of hours later. It was quite scary because it was directly across from the nuclear power plant!! A little further down the fire jumped the freeway so we had fire on both sides. Good thing I was going about 70mph through there. There were fire trucks and news cameras. Some people pulled off to the side to take pictures!

So, here we are back home and back to work. It seems much better here now, not so scary and maybe I will be able to get some sleep - even though I'd rather be playing VMK!

Sending lots of happy thoughts for the rest of those of us who are being affected by these crazy fires.

It's been raining here since Monday! too bad it's not much help for our drought, and it's supposed to rain possibly through Friday!:woohoo:
so it's helping a little bit but not enough to help our drought that much.

Wow... breaking news! They have officially declared the Santiago Canyon fire an arson. They said that there are two separate points of origin and are offering a $50,000 reward for the capture of the arsonist(s).

Absolutely incredible and terrible :sad2:

This is the fire closest to me. It is absolutely incredible. This was close to my office, and terrifying.

The fires are terrible all over. For an arsonist to add to the problem?

Disgusting.

There is ash falling everywhere here. The quality of the air has forced the 2 huge local school districts to shut down tomorrow. We have always wanted a "snow day", but this is just terrible.

Please pray for us. Thankfully, I do not think my home is in danger. I can, however, see flames in the distance. My heart breaks for those who have lost their homes.

Hang in there everyone

well i hope everyone that's down there in the line of fire (no pun intended) is doing ok. you're all in my prayers. as for disneyland, anyone know how it is in DLR lately? my neice is going this weekend with one of her little friends and i was just wondering how i needed to get her packed and what she may need. i heard that perhaps i ought to send her with a mask. is it really that bad there?
got creeped out earlier on the news they showed a fire tornado in pendleton. my hubby used to work right over there so we've been getting ahold of his friends over there to see if they're ok. this is absolutely crazy! again, i hope everyone's alright!
