Lapu Lapu at Kona??

Sorry! I scrolled down and realized somebody just asked this question....I got the answer! Yes!:)

Mmmmmm Lapu Lapu. Bring much cash or your credit cards. I think they are aroun$12 a piece. Drink them anyway. Mmmmm:earsboy:

You can also get them to go at the Tambu Lounge. I like to get one and bring it to the beach to watch the fireworks. :goodvibes

Do they give you the 'to go' one in a pineapple also? Or is it a regular plastic cup? That would kind of take some of the yum factor away I would think, it HAS to be in a pineapple!

I ordered it for my birthday, it was so strong and way too sour for me

So I ordered this instead

Oooh, I love the lapu lapu! It's like a highly alcoholic sweet tart.

I don't find them tart at all, I find them almost sickly sweet. It's mostly pineapple juice, which is really sweet (to me).

About the pineapple glass: if you order a "lapu lapu", it comes in the pineapple. If you order a "mai tai" it comes in a regular cup and costs about $5 less. (not sure exactly, but several dollars cheaper)

Moral of the story, order a lapu lapu for the first one, and then just get mai tais and pour them into your pineapple to refill. The bartenders encourage this, actually, and are the ones who told me to do so. In fact, they will tell you they don't have lapu lapus at the pool bar, for example, because they don't have the pineapples out there. They can and do make mai tais, however. :goodvibes Sometimes I get the first lapu lapu with the pineapple from the bar inside, then sit out on the beach and drink it, then get the mai tai refills for my pineapple from the pool bar. And yes, I can drink several of these. I don't find them too strong at all, though YMMV, of course. ;)

I find the Lapu Lapu both sweet and strong. Sweet enough that one every few years is often enough for me.

They are sweeter than Mai Tais IMO. BTW, the Polynesian is the only place that makes good Mai Tais now I think. Had one at the GF and SSR and both were terrible!

Ive always gotten them in the pineapple, there or to go.
