Laptops & Safes

Which WDW resort(s) has safes large enough to safely secure and store a notebook computer?

None that I have stayed in. I have traveled with a 14" a 15.4" and a 12" and none have fit safes that I remember. I use a cable lock, and secure to something in the room. On other occasions, I have just left it on the table. We have had up to 3 laptops and 3 external HD's in the room without issue.

Nope not large enough (at least not any that I've seen). Last year we just put our laptop in the drawer under some clean clothes so it was out of sight.

I've been able to store my 15.4" laptop in safes at the Polynesian, Pop and the AKL. While the ones at the Poly and Pop have the most space, I wouldn't put a laptop bigger than 15.4" in there.

Hope that helps! :thumbsup2

My 15 inch laptop wouldn't fit in the safe at POFQ. I recently bought a ASUS EEE PC for travel....about 6 x 8 inches....and I don't need a separate bag to carry a laptop in. Even though in the past, I just left my laptop in my carryon bag, now I can secure it in the room safe.

I've always just left mine out, plugged in & set up. No one has ever disturbed it.

My 15" fit in the safe at OKW... I have a 15.4 now and staying at POR in a month and half and dont expect it to fit in that one

Yeah that! :)

NO, NOT THAT!!! ANYTHING BUT THAT!!!

Would you leave $1000 in cash sitting out unlocked, even in a WDW resort room? Then why leave a small, easily-concealable piece of electronics worth $1000 sitting out unlocked?

And even if you are foolish enough to believe that every single WDW employee is so high on pixie dust that none of them would EVER consider walking off with any of your posessions, you still must acknowledge the fact that they are human and imperfect - and they work quickly in those rooms with spray chemicals and vaccuum cleaners that pose a hazard to uncovered electronics. You might still get back to your room one night and find your laptop had taken a dive thanks to an errant vaccuum cleaner, or gotten spritzed with a spray cleaner.

Or stolen by one of the roving theives who walk around and take advantage of the housekeepers' common practice of leaving room doors proped open while they work next door.

Take my advice - LOCK UP YOUR LAPTOPS.

In resorts where mine doesn't fit in the safe, I lock it by weaving a steel cable lock through several of the tines of the wire shelf in teh vanity area. I also pile some stuff on top of it to make it less conspicuous to any would-be theives.

I did the same thing, we stayed at several resorts and none were big enough. I did lock mine and my parents in my vehicle when we transferred to another resort during our split stay last year so they wouldn't get bumped, dropped, broken or go missing during our luggage transfer.

My macbook fit into the safes at Pop and I hear that the ones at Poly are even bigger. If it doesn't, I would lock it in your luggage. No one will know its in there and they can't open your luggage and will usually never steal just a suitcase :)

Not exactly true.

It's often obvious when there's a laptop somewhere in the room from the paraphenalia lying around. Sure, some folks do put everything away when not using the laptop, but most leave power cords, mice, adapters, or laptop bags out in plain sight somewhere in the room, because these items are too small, cheap, or laptop-specific to make them worth stealing. But they are like an alert sign that there is a laptop computer somewhere about.

Then there's the completely false sense of security that comes from having something "locked" in luggage. Although there are still some of the old-fashioned hard-shell suitcases in use today, the majority of travellers use soft-sided luggage with zipper closures. Don't think that the locks on the zippers make those things the least little bit secure - the zipper teeth can be easily forced open with any kind of tool, and sometimes even by hand. Of course, if the theif wants to get into a soft-sided bag, a simple pocket knife will accomplish the feat in short order without even looking at the zipper.

What do you think the theives use to transport their ill-gotten booty? They take the luggage that's lying around in the room, toss anything small and/or valuable into it, and walk off. If they find it locked, that just piques their interest - you only lock a suitcase when there's something in it worth locking up.

Even those old-fashioned hard-shell cases are no real protection; if the theif finds one locked, he'll know there's probably something worth stealing inside it, so he'll just make off with the whole thing and unlock it later at his leisure.

So that's why I don't ever leave anything valuable in my hotel room without locking it up in the safe or with a steel locking cable.

My 15.4" Toshiba laptop (14"WX10.5"H) fit fine in the safe at Pop. It has to stand on its side but there was room for other small items in the safe as well.
