Laptop or Not

I am debating taking my laptop with me. Mainly to down load my photos every day and burn them to cd, I'm paranoid about losing photos. Also, maybe once or twice check email. I tend to get a lot and I don't want to have to tackle it all when I get home from my 10 day vacation.

If I'm concerned about having enough space for my photos, I'll buy another memory chip. I wouldn't bring my laptop to upload my photos onto. The photos are far safer on the memory chip than in a laptop (which is much more fragile and likely to be stolen).

I brought my laptop on my trip last sept. I won't do it again, it was just one more thing I had to carry on the plane. I would rather buy another memory chip, it's much smaller
I also thought I would check my email for my business, but I was on Vacation, and had NO desire to get online when at the hotel room.

We take ours. This way we can watch a movie on the flight and/or layover, download our photos as necessary and be able to send email photos to our family which they really enjoy.

I am for sure taking mine! I called CBR and they told me that at customer service they have like a safety box feature that some are small for credit cards and some are very large and will hold a laptop easily.. they are free to use and they take 2 keys.. one from me and one from the front desk! I will use this feature!

I will definately bring the laptop. This time we're driving so we'll be watching the "in drive" movie or two or six. We also download our pictures every evening. I like to see them on a daily basis. The one's I missed or didn't come out well, I can always go back and get again.

I've got a nice small Dell Inspiron 700m, which only weighs a couple of pounds and is the size of one of the larger hand held DVD players. It's perfect for traveling, so I brought it with me in September and again in January. In September we used it for my nieces on the plane to watch movies, and also in our hotel room one night. We never connected to the net, but we did use it to upload the photos we took during the week. The CR has a safe in the room that was large enough to hold my PC, so that's where I stored it. In January we used it for uploading pictures so my sister could see what my niece was up to (since we were on our first solo trip) and also to check in via email. I must say, the CR's wireless net stunk. So I only paid for it one day.

I always carry a small rolling luggage, cheap piece I bought at Walmart for about $10. It's perfect for the laptop and anything else we may want on the plane. I just make sure to keep it with me on the bus so it's not rolling around underneath.

Bringing my new Mac Powerbook G4 (12")!! Brought my Inspiron in 2004 for pic uploading and wouldn't do that again. This new comp is MUCH lighter (~ a small textbook) and has a DVD player for the flight down and back. I'm a geek about pictures, so even between both digital cameras, we'll probably exceed memory space several times over. I would err on the side of personal comfort.

I bring my laptop for the same reasons you mention. I too am paronoid about loosing pics. There isnt ENOUGH memory cards out there for all the pics/vids I take. Also watch DVDs at night.
From what I understand, some resorts have Safes in each room that will fit laptops, some dont. I know the POP does, so I keep mine in the safe.

You're far more likely to lose them while on your laptop than off a memory card.
I'd buy a couple of smaller cards rather than some of the 1-2 gig. That way if you lose a card you don't have 300 photos lost.

I tend to bring mine wherever we travel. Even if you can't fit yours in a safe, you can always lock it in your suitcase (the world should know about TSA-approved locks by now) if you feel the need.

I have a small Fujitsu LifeBook with memory card readers built-in, so it's handy to download from all our devices.

My favorite Laptop tip: BEFORE you travel to WDW, visit allearsnet and save to your favorites all the pages of menus and information you might need while there. Make sure you check the "make available offline" box. Voila, you now have a trove of webpages at your disposal even if you're not connected to the net... and no having to type it out elsewhere (which I still do, btw)

Are in in-room safes typically large enough to hold an average sized laptop? I just bought a new one, and I'm considering bringing it with me in August. Although it was not "expensive" by laptop standards, I would feel better if it was locked up during the day.

We've brought ours on our last two trips and didn't have any problems. We also had 3 cameras to download pictures from on one trip and 4 on another. And it was nice to see them big on the screen, that way if it didn't turn out good we could always go back and get better ones. I know that there are problems with them being stolen, but there are ways to get around them. And from what I heard they fit in the safes. We will be bringing our this time again!!!

Some resorts, YES...Some resorts NO.
Which resort are you staying at?

My personal suggestion is to leave the laptop at home. Buy an extra memory card or two.
