Anyone know if GF has in room safes and if so, do laptops fit in them? Trying to decide whether or not to bring along a laptop but want to make sure it is secure during the day.

thanks for any info...

Sorry, but a laptop will not fit in the safes at GF. It has been a little over 2 years since I've been. The safe was about the diameter of a small shoe box, but only 2-3 inches deep.

oh wow very small safes there. ok well worth the thought. thanks

Have never stayed at GF (at least not yet) but have stayed at value, moderate and deluxe resorts and have taken my laptop and have never had a problem with leaving it in the room. I don't leave it sitting out in plain sight but just in its case.

We do the same but I do get really lazy and will just shove it into a drawer with clothes on top of it. I've even gotten REALLY lazy on my solo trips and left it plugged in and on the table with just a newspaper covering it.

I have a very small Dell(work laptop) and it didn't fit. I put it in a dreser drawer and under some clothes and it was fine.

That being said, if it was my personal laptop, I'd check it at the front desk instead.

We leave ours out as well most of the time, but our MacBook fit in the Poly safe in January just fine. Maybe the refurbed rooms have bigger safes (they are the digital / card ones, not key ones).

We leave ours out on the table in full view, plugged in, up and running. Never had a problem.

Most everything is backed up and since we take DHs work laptop, anyone would have a heck of time getting past all the security. Even my hacker BIL can't get into without a lot of work--days worth. For us though, if it was stolen, DH's company would have another for him the next day. We found that out the night he forgot & left it in the car and it was stolen because he forgot to lock the doors. They want him to stay productive.

i would just purchase an inexpensive cable lock (combination) and loop it around a table leg. there have been thefts of laptops over the years.

I've stayed at DVC resorts and my laptop always fits in the safe. I had a fujitsu lifebook and now a dell XPS. Both fit well, if you stand them up leaning against the back wall of the safe. Not sure if the GF safes are different size, though.

When I toured some of the resorts I was told my laptop would fit in the safes (13 inch) standing up (I didn't try it, but the safes are not big). The way it was presented to me is that a small laptop would fit in any of the safes on property. Mind you, I didn't try it that was just what I've been told, and so I could easily have been given the wrong info.

That being said, I know I will leave my laptop at home this summer because I'm not willing to take a risk of the laptop not fitting into a safe since I'm not willing to leave it in the room otherwise.

Invest in a computer cable lock, there is usually somewhere in a hotel room it can be safely locked up.
