Help! I'm going to be purchasing a laptop in the next few weeks and I have no clue what kind to get. Right now I have a desktop (just had to have a new hard drive put in b/c of the scary blue screen), but would really like to have a laptop as it is more convenient.

I will be using it for internet/email, doing lesson plans (actually cover letters at the moment b/c I still can't find a teaching position), downloading a few pictures, maybe watching a movie/listening to music every so often. I'd like one that has good battery life. Ideally I'd like one with a number pad, but I can live w/o it. I guess I'm looking to spend no more than $600. The less I have to spend the better, but I don't want to have to replace it soon either.

Does anyone have any suggestions or know of any good deals? Thanks for any help.
