Lap child on Southwest question

Question with SW and ID for infants, I know the standard is to bring your childs birth cert.

The SWA website just says a "copy" of the BC. There's no indication that it has to be a certified copy, so I'd think just a xerox copy would serve. You might want to call and check that, but if they want a certified copy, they could (and should) easily have said so.

The main reason for not getting a passport is cost. 130 something compared to a non driver enhanced id for 45 bucks. big difference. and I know people who have lost their birth cert on their trip and had issues. if we bring the ID's instead and leave the bc at home atleast we still have some proof of citizenship even if grandma needs to overnight it. NO BC = NO proof
While a certified copy of the birth certificate is, what, $10? THAT'S the document Southwest requires as proof your under-two child is, in fact, under two and entitled to fly as a lap child.

OH DD is getting her own seat. No way DH and I are gonna hold her squirmy butt for 3+ hours! hahaha

Bumber- Thanks, I deff prefer to get DD a passport, and we will if we have the money at that point but I did a ****oo and messed mine up. I got it in '08 before i got married, when I got married end of '08 forgot to have my name changed :confused3 (i know i know) so now I have to pay full renewal price to get mine fixed! But your math has very good logic in it :lmao:

If she has her own seat then you don't need to bring a birth certificate for her. She doesn't need any ID for flying domestically. The birth certificate is just to prove that she's young enough to qualify as a lap child.

Ok, so if the child (age 1) has a seat they don't need any identification to match up with their ticket?

Yep you got it! You only need the BC to qualify for the fare.

Children do not need ID to fly/get thru security.

Domestically of course

Correct. I often fly with my DS2 and my DD7 on SW. As long as they have their own seat I have never had to provide documentation for them other than their boarding card. When my son was a lap baby I did have to show his birth certificate to prove he was under 2.

Dizzied is taking a cruise, so she does need to have ID for her baby. Just not for the flight. :)

The point is that she doesn't need a birth certificate because she doesn't need it for the flight (it had already been established that she didn't need the birth certificate for the cruise).

You may well be right, but I'm not finding anything on the SW site that says it has to be a certified copy :confused3 I don't have a dog in this fight, but I am curious.

it definitely does NOT have to be certified... i brought a regular ol' photocopy and had zero issue... and it's a good thing too, 'cause ds' actualy bc was at the passport office!
