DH''s doctor recommended Lap Band surgery to help him lose weight. He is thinking about it, but we don't know much about it. I have read about it online, but I am looking for other people's experiences. Has anyone had it? Can you share your experience with me? Feel free to PM me!

Thanks!

I highly recommend http://www.obesityhelp.com

They have forums for lapband, gastric bypass, & more. I, myself, had gastric bypass as the thought of having a foreign object in my body for the rest of my life bothered me a lot. Not saying that what I felt was best for me would be best for your DH, but like I said... check out obesity help. They were a HUGE resource for me when I was making my decision. Actually, several DIS members referred me to that webpage :)

Hope this helps!

A friend of mine had it done a few years ago and her weight loss has been very slow. She has been telling people who ask that she recommends the more traditional gastric bypass. But, I have to say, I saw her this weekend and she looks great.

I had lapband on March 17, 2008 and I am down around 100 pounds.. I could stand to lose another 20 pounds, but if I never did I would be just fine.. I am happier and healthier than I have been in a really long time..

Sure there are days when I wish I could pig out and eat like I used to or even just to be able to eat some of the things I used to be able to.. Each person is different.. some people have problems with certain foods after the surgery whereas other people dont have a problem with those foods.. it might be different foods.. as an example, I have a problem eating breads, pasta and rice.. they seem to get stuck.. so I choose to stay away from them for the most part.. occassionally I will have a little spagetti, but I choose to stay away from it most of the time.. I cant pretty much eat anything else besides those foods.. only in moderation.. I get full very fast..

Would I do it again?? You betcha .. The only regret I have is that I waited as long as I did to have it..

I also recommend obesityhelp dot com and lapbandsurgery dot com.. these are very informative sites... that was where I originally went and found out everything I wanted to know and then some..

if you have any specific questions, pm me I will will happy to answer your questions..

I would agree with PP, I had the surgery in October 2007, am down 120 lbs, feeling great! I would like to get down another 20 to 30 pounds, but it may take some plastic surgery, I have been trying to get rid of some excess skin! I do have issues bread and all dough like items, even sphagetti. I can eat tortillas, but that is about it! Oh well, I can live with out bread. I have to admit I look a lot better this summer than I have in many years and am loving it! Feel free to pm me if he has any questions. I was healthy enough to have it done outpatient, most can not.
