Smartest thing Disney ever did. Me and my two kids love it!!!! My husband just watches. Try www.cheappins.com. They usually have a great starter set for like $20.00. Also ebay. Last trip i know i went with some pins from home and still bought $75.00 in lanyards plus 1 pin each .
We really love searching for cast members with pins. i think Epcot was the best pin trading spot.
Make sure that you get some cheap Disney pins to trade. You can get these on eBay for around $2 per pin. This makes it much cheaper than the $6-7 on board or at Disney. Once you have the pins - everybody on board is quite willing to trade.
Make sure you only buy pins that have the Disney copyright on them.
So, let me make sure I understand this more clearly.... I buy a lanyard and some cheap disney (marked) pins to place on this lanyard... and when I wear this on the ship, some of the crew members will also have lanyards on and want to trade me....?
Are there any pins I should look for more than other ones?
This is totally new to me...
thanks for the input !
They had Disney Cruise Line lanyards on board the ship on the 10/19 Wonder. They also sell starter kits for about $25. It has a lanyard and 4 pins that you can start trading. All you really need to trade is 1 pin. Trade that with any Cast Member with a lanyard on. Have fun. Both of my boys 10 & 5 really enjoy it.
We LOVE to pin trade. My sons (5 & 8) and I try to do the pin-trading thing every night on the cruise.
My suggestion -- buy both the lanyards and the pins from a "lot" auction on eBay. Expect to pay about $2.50 (includes the shipping) for the pins. It doesn't matter which Disney pins because they will be traded away!
On the ship - trade pins with anyone wearing a lanyard. CM's must trade for any pin you want as long as you don't give them a pin they already have on their lanyard. The pin-trading evening times are fun. Be sure to look for the big book with pins in it. You can take any pin you want from the book as long as you replace it with one.
We try to get pins that mean something to us; Pins from movies we like or from rides we like at WDW.
If you have time before or after the cruise, make sure to stop at Downtown Disney and check out their Pin Trading Hut. There's usually 5 or 6 people with notebooks loaded full of pins!
Also...if you eat Kelloggs Raisin Bran or other Kellogg cereals they are running a promotion. They have special auction bucks on the back of select cereal boxes. You collect them and then go to their website and bid on pins and other stuff! The pins start at 3 "bucks". I have won two so far, for 9 and 11 "bucks"....no s/h, so really they are free!
