We will be bringing lanyards but I wondered if the badge holder needs to be horizontal or vertical? Or does it matter when scanning?

Just check them often. I was unpacking from our trip and realized that my plastic envelope had ripped and I was oh so close to losing my AP and EP room ticket! I know they can be replaced but I’m committed to checking it each morning and throughout the day for now on!!!

The same thing happened to my daughter. We bought sturdier ones from Amazon to use on our next trip; the ones you buy from the parks tear easily!

We will have fanny packs. I was just going to put our AP/room key in the front small pocket of that. Do I want to do a lanyard instead?

As long as you can access them easily, it shouldn’t be an issue. You’ll need to scan your room key for EP at each ride (if staying at a premier resort). If you plan to take the Hogwarts Express, you’ll also need to scan your pass again in order to confirm that you have park-to-park access.

I think you do. Taking it out at every ride gets old fast. If you have the “scan” part out on each side (AP for entry, hotel key for rides) it’s quick and easy to scan and you don’t hold up the line at all. Plus most rides require you to show it twice, so it’s just much easier to have around your neck and not fiddle with putting it away right before you board or as you’re going through a dark que. the lanyard can be a great way to reflect your interests or favorites. We love having lanyards representing our HP houses. 😃

Just FYI, Universal sells replacement card holders for the lanyards. YDS’s broke this trip, but his lanyard is still perfectly good, so we bought a new pouch for $1 in the Kwik-E-Mart. I’ve also seen some HP and other themed lanyards at places like Five Below, but without the card holder attached. Pick up one of those and buy a replacement holder, and you’ve got a festive lanyard for a fraction of the price of buying one there (around $15).

Only if you don't plan on riding one that doesn't allow fanny packs. Everything that could fly off has to go in a locker. You need your pass or ticket to use the lockers. If you have the pass on a lanyard you just put it inside your clothes.

I think you talked me into it!

Do you know how much are the HP lanyards at Universal?
