Hi all,
So, we will be visiting DLR for the first time in less than 60 days, and i'm trying to work out if i should pick up a lanyard before my trip.
I used a lanyard at Universal Orlando the last time i went but it's one of the thick ones that's supposed to look like a neck tie, and i found it a bit annoying.
I've never needed one at WDW because: magic bands (which i love, don't flame me! :duck: i want a MB for my life, for everything!!!) so i don't own a Disney type one.

I've been checking the Disney store site for some, but there really isn't much variety (i don't have access to the Shop Disney Parks app as i'm not in the USA and it's not available in the Aus App store) and i cant recall what was available in the parks, because like i said, I've never needed one.

So, after my ramblings, my question is: is there more variety in the parks for lanyards than what i would be seeing on the disney store website? or should i try to get one before i go?

thanks!!

Yes, I'm pretty sure there are more in the parks than what's listed on the Disney store website. I spent considerable time looking for one last year because I'm a preschool teacher and I wear one for work. There's a pretty good selection.

Thank you!!
I might just hold off then.
I kind of want one with the clip so you can take the bottom of it off with the cards etc just for ease of use.

I wish I could get the shop Disney parks app here!!

A lanyard is a must for FP running. Just don't get one of those flimsy plastic pouches they sell. Get something sturdier that you can attach and put your passes in. The ones they sell (at a whopping $4.75) - I've never had one that lasted more than three days.

I just upgraded my lanyard to one of the wide ones to accommodate more pins. There isn't as much variety with the wide ones, but the standard-width ones have quite a few variations.

Thanks. i'm hoping MaxPass will be in effect by the time we are there, so no running necessary, but if it isnt, my sister and i can keep up together i think. but will make it easier for photopass i assume?

I have a stash of the ones we use at work, so i have decent ones and they seal, and i'll have spares! i think i've covered all bases there :)

i just didnt like the thick one when i was on all the coasters at Universal, i found it didnt sit right on my neck, which is a shame because i love it so much!
I'll have to pick out an awesome thinner one :)

I like the plastic case made by Witz and hang it on a Disney lanyard:

I would wait until you are in the park. The reason I say this is because some of the material in the lanyards is rough and scratches your neck and some are really smooth & comfortable and you won't know this by viewing the lanyard online. I made this mistake already and ended up buying another one at the park that wasn't irritating my neck. So, the first one was a waste of money.

I purchased all of ours in Amazon and they are unique and super nice. I have a Peter Pan one, DH has Grumpy, DS 15 Alice, DS 13 Stitch. You can also purchase them in the Parks. eBay and Etsy have nice ones as well.

How do you feel that will make it easier? To me it's just one more moving part to fail lol.

Yep.

That and my nice soft Ravenclaw tie lanyard and I'm set!

Op I know you felt it sat wrong on your neck, but the tie lanyards are about the softest lanyard material you're going to find. Definitely shop at the parks to make sure things feel right.

Nice thing about the Ravenclaw lanyard (or any sold at the parks) is that they have the Velcro, so if something has flipped funny you can undo the Velcro and fix it.

I agree with the recommendations to wait until you get to the parks to select the lanyard design and style you like the best. I've seen a fairly good selection at several of the pin shops, so I'd start by looking there. Some have clips at the bottom, others have a metal loop. So I would bring something with you that will connect your pouch to the lanyard just in case you like one that doesn't come with a clip.

That being said, I'm not a huge fan of wearing lanyards with tickets and such in a pouch. I manage to get the lanyard caught on too many things. I'd rather just keep the ticket(s) and photopass card in my wallet and pull them out as needed.

because its better than trying to take the whole thing off and on every time it needs to be scanned (at UOR for EP for example) or trying to take the plastic pocket off the clip.

yeah, they're thin material so therefore soft, but it just was too thick around my neck, so it sat up all the time, its not about the thickness of the material, rather the width of the material. i've tried to use it for work and faced the same issue, i just dont like it.
I'll be getting the other ravenclaw one at UOR

yeah, this was a great feature for sure. i also was able to actually do a Windsor knot in it so it looked like a tie, so that was cool. but again, just too thick/wide

Hot Topic also has cute lanyards!
I did have a look, but chances of me getting to a Hot topic store are slim, and i found out today that the HoJo charges $5 per package PER DAY for any parcels accepted on a guest's behalf. and given the outrageous cost of international shipping to Australia, its not worthwhile to order from HT pre-trip :(

I did look at them the other day though :):)

You might want to consider a Australian lanyard design (or other unique design) to wear in the parks

I have worn many different lanyards, but this Neko Atsume (a cat iPhone game) gets the most comments:
