Lanyards

They only give you one if you are a returning cruiser. If this is your first cruise you will need to bring one or buy one if you want one.

Going on our first cruise in May...purpose of a lanyard? I have seen them in WDW and hold the keys...but people have the MB now.

DCL is not using Magic Bands yet, with the exception of the Oceaneers Club/Lab. The purpose of the lanyard is something to hold your KTTW card, which is your room key and how you make purchases on the ship.

No MagicBands on the ships (yet).

I never use lanyards in the parks, but I do on the ships. You don't need cash very many places, so I don't carry a purse...KTTW and driver's license in the lanyard pouch and I'm good!

do you need to bring one or do they give them to you ?

I believe you also get one if you are a DVC member. But otherwise, you will need to supply your own if you want one to hold your KTTW card. They do sell them in the gift shop, but that won't be open until after you sail.

I usually carried at least a wristlet since I usually had a camera with me everywhere I went so I never needed a lanyard during our first cruise. I could see it being nice for many, but it is not necessary to have.

Thanks for the info! I am in DVC so maybe I will have them in the room or I can visit the kiosk. If not, and I think I will need one, I will purchase. Can you use a credit card on board or does everything go on the room key?

Everything goes through the room key. When you do online check-in or check-in at the port if not done online, you will provide your CC that will be charged at the end of the cruise with your on-board expenses.
As for the lanyard, I just use my wallet, keep my KTTW card in it, and not worry about a lanyard.

DVC no longer leaves lanyards in your room. They will be handing them out in the terminal or you can stop at the DVC desk on-board (when it's staffed).

Need to have DVC member card?
You will most likely be contacted by DVC prior to your cruise letting you know what time they will be available in the terminal and when/where the member celebration will take place. If you miss them in the terminal, stop by the DVC desk on-board to get your DVC member lanyards. They will ask for your stateroom number to match to their list of member that are on-board.

If you don't receive the DVC lanyard in the terminal you can get it at the desk. They took my DVC lanyard and combined it with my Gold one so I could use both.

On our Fantasy cruise in March, the DVC meet was on embarkation day before the muster. They were handing out DVC lanyards to those who did not get one from them in the terminal. I saw some people get them at the DVC desk as well.

Depending on the port, DVC might not be handing them out in the terminal. They did not have a spot there on our recent departure from Copenhagen. Had to get them onboard.
