We just became a Universal family last summer after dozens of Disney trips (my boys are 15 and 8). As the designated ticket/Fast Pass holder I loved the Magic Bands, made my life so much less stressful. After 1 day of constantly digging room keys/passes out of my bag/pockets our first day in Universal our priority the next morning was to go the store at the front of the park and have everyone pick out a lanyard. So much easier and less stressful. Tons of people have them, so you won't feel out of place, trust me. Even my "too cool for school" 15 year old wears his no issues.
A few plusses to lanyards to consider:
1. They usually have people at multiple places in the line to check and/or scan your pass. Cuts back on collecting and redistributing passes.
2. For locker rides, I cannot tell you how many times we accidentally locked up our passes/room keys. Not only do you need them for EP, but to reopen the lockers. Duh! No issues with that if it is on the lanyard.
3. If you have AP's, several times we got discounts/privilege's we didn't even know about because the cast member saw our AP's on our lanyards.
4. We just tuck them down our shirts on rides. Less risk of losing them....especially for me who doesn't always have a pocket.
