HI there! We are flying into MCO on April 14th on Jetblue. We land at 6:00pm and are using ME. We have always used ME in the past but have flown in on the morning flight. Should we get our own luggage? Or do you think that it will be delivered at a normal time? NOT 11pm or midnight??? We always let ME handle the luggage since it is convenient, but do not want to wait until verrrry late at night. Any recent experiences:confused3

Well, bags should be delivered 3-4 hours after resort check-in and it can take up to 90 minutes or so to get to the resort. As a result, your bags could very easily arrive as late as 11:30 a.m. or so. That would be a normal time range for DME at any time of day.

You can pick up your bags yourself, but JetBlue comes in on Side A of MCO and DME is on Side B. That means that after riding the tram from the gates you will need to go down to level two on Side A, claim your bags, go back up to level three and cross over to Side B, then go down to level one to the DME desk. In addition to a lot of schlepping around the airport it will add at least 20-30 minutes to the time it will take to get to your resort.

Basically, you just need to pick which of those scenarios is best for you. I'd go with having DME handle my luggage. It's a good idea to have anything you need for the first 12 hours or so in carry-on bags anyway in case the airline loses, misdirects or delays your bags somewhere. If you do that, you can alert the front desk at the resort to have bell services hold your luggage overnight (it's a good idea to put out the Do Not Disturb sign too). You can then call in the morning for your bags.

thanks JESTOCOST!! Ushhh I wish we could switch to the morning flight:sad2: But at least I know what to expect now thank you for responding:worship:

we are not going to schelp all over the airport..so we decided to let DME handle the bags. Hoping for a 10pm delivery on our luggage:woohoo:

I think that's a good call. DME says that they deliver within three hours of check in, so you likely will have your bags no later than 10:30 p.m.

Where are you staying? I think all but the Pop resorts will hold delivery until the morning if you request it. If you are worried about a late night delivery, you could pack everything you'll need for your first night in your carry ons, call down to Bell Services in the morning and have your luggage delivered then. Our flight also gets in after 6:00 PM and we are debating about this too, except we are coming from the West so our clocks will be 3 hours behind, so 10:00 PM doesn't seem late the first night.

We are also flying JetBlue and arriving in the 6 o'clock hour. I like to have everything unpacked and ready to go before our first wakeup so I think I will probably just collect my own luggage. This will be an adventure with a 2 year old in tow!!:lmao:

It's my understanding that ME doesn't deliver bags after 10 p.m. If you arrive after 6 p.m. I would definitely carry-on everything I need for the first night.

ME won't pick up bags from the airport after 10:00 PM. However, if you arrive before 10:00 PM, your bags will be sent to your resort. It's up to the resort to deliver them to your room after 10:00 PM. You can ask bell services to hold them until the morning.

ME stops picking up luggage at 10pm at the airport....but the resorts will deliver bags all night if need be.

The value resorts pretty much shut down their luggage delivery late at night and start up again early the next morning...at least that has been my experience. And if staying at POP, you will find that they have very sporadic luggage delivery to begin with. They don't bring luggage to rooms as the bags arrive...but wait until they have a lot to deliver and then make runs every so often.

I would let DME handle bags if arriving at 6pm. You will most likely be at your resort by 7-7:30, and your bags will then be expected by 10:30-11, but most likely sooner. Pack anything you need for that first night in your carryon bags. If you decide you don't want to wait for your bags to come, let them know this at the front desk and the bags can be held until the next morning. Hang the 'privacy please' hanger on your door and let Bell Services/Luggage Assistence know not to deliver the bags. Then you can call them in the morning when you want delivery.

Do they not deliver at all past 10 p.m.? I thought it was just that if your flight arrived after 10 p.m. they didn't handle your luggage for you, but as long as you arrived before 10, they would take care of it.

thanks everyone! YES our flight arrives at 6pm, so I know that DME can get our luggage, I just was hoping not to have to wait until super late to get them delivered to our room at POP. Kids will most likely be asleep in bed, but we will wait up for them. Don't want to waste our first AM waiting around to get the delivery either :rotfl: we have to get to the MK!!!!!

Unfortunately, there have been errors and some not-so-good advice in replies to this thread.

Here's how Disney explains the inbound luggage service at http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/planning-guides/in-depth-advice/airport-service/

Upon landing at Orlando International Airport, skip baggage claim and proceed to the Disney's Magical Express Welcome Center in the Main Terminal Building, B side, Level 1. Disney's Magical Express service will collect your luggage and deliver it directly to your Walt Disney World hotel room within 3 hours after you check in at the resort. Luggage delivery service provided by Disney's Magical Express is available for flights arriving between 5:00 am and 10:00 pm daily. For airport arrivals after 10:00 pm, Guests may collect their luggage at Baggage Claim and transport it with them on the motor coach.

Notice that is says, "within 3 hours after you check in at the resort" (not "3-4 hours after resort check-in"). When we've been in the room, our bags have shown up within an hour of check-in. (Other times, we left the room soon after check-in, so I don't know how long it took.) It depends on how busy they are.

Notice that it says, "Disney's Magical Express is available for flights arriving between 5:00 am and 10:00 pm daily" (not "ME doesn't deliver bags after 10 p.m.").

Although throwing away the yellow DME tags and waiting for your bags at baggage claim is an option (and a necessity for arrivals after 10 p.m.), it's usually not a desirable choice. It's not unusual to wait 30 minutes for bags at Orlando. Between that wait and the extra time trudging to and from baggage claim, it's likely you'll be on a later DME coach, so you'll arrive at your resort 30 to 60 minutes later than if you had used DME's free inbound baggage delivery. It also means tipping anyone who assists you with your bags (airport porters, DME driver, resort bell services).

If you use the DME inbound baggage service as designed, Disney covers the tips. You don't even have to be in your room.

Last August we arrived at the resort around 9pm using DME. Our luggage arrived at our room at 1:30am. I had the option to have bell services hold them until the morning, but I declined. We stayed at POR, and I saw the carts going around most of the night with luggage. Lesson learned...make sure the next trip is in the am!!

While that may be true, sometimes the delivery window may be longer. During busy times of year (such as 4th of July) the ME driver may announce that the delivery window for your bags has been extended. So if traveling during a peak season, you may want to keep that in mind. And pay attention to what your bus driver is saying when you are on that happy ride to your resort.:goodvibes

I am looking at my DME info packet...and I quote...

Your luggage will travel separately from you and may take up to 3 hours after you check-in at the resort to be delivered to your room.

So, plan accordingly. The problem with that '3 hours' is that even though DME may get your bags to your resort, it's up to Luggage Assistance/Bell Services to get the bags to the room. And sometimes Luggage Asst. isn't the quickest group in the world. I have checked into my room at POP before noon, and had to wait until close to 5pm to get my checked bags. And of course that was the one time my elder dd decided to pack her carryon incorrectly!!

Most times bags get to the rooms in a timely fashion. But sometimes there are glitches in the system.
