My family comes from around the country and meets at DW every couple of years. One person has always checked everyone in at the same time so when the others arrive they can just go to the rooms. I noticed in the cruise docs that it says you must show your picture ID and passport/birth certificate at hotel check-in (we are doing the land portion first). I can understand them checking at the boat but why the hotel, since they are going to check at the boat anyway? We have a large group and it seems senseless for all of us to wait to check-in.

I think that you will be checking in to both the hotel and the boat at the hotel. I don't believe you have to check in again at the boat if you have the land and sea adventure.

Unless something has changed due to security you will check in at the hotel with all of your identification, docs, etc. Your KTTW card becomes your stateroom key and ship ID. There will be "tickets" in your stateroom with the dining rotation, table assignments, etc on them. You will still need to go through a security screening at the port, which I believe is now upon entry to the terminal rather than the ship itself but not an additional check in. That is presuming you booked as a package and not 2 separate trips.
