Land Border and positive test

Sure, but if daughter is driving down only to meet them at the airport and drive home does it not add additional stress to that day to get tested down south? And what if daughter tests positive after driving to Buffalo. We are considering a weekend getaway to Lake Placid in the near future and I still think we will get tested just before we leave. I don't want to waste part of my first day trying to figure out where to get tested down there when I know where to go at home, even if we are going to pay a bit more. And if we test positive before we go, then we can just back out.
If she were to test positive in the US then she'd just drive home and quarantine...same thing as if she were to test positive at home prior to going.

If she tests positive, then she will quarantine when she gets home like she should be doing anyway if she has covid. Doesn't stop her from crossing the border to come home. I would most likely determine where to test before I headed over the border. The whole scenario was an emergency situation where the daughter had to go and pick them up....it wasn't about her going for a vacation. If it is a spend $150 or spend nothing deal, then it is definitely worth considering depending on their location and timing.

LOL - the whole scenario was a hypothetical, not an emergency. Never actually happened, and the way it was spun out there will be time for planning. The proposed choice (from another poster, not the OP) was drive down and back, or have daughter meet them at BUF. Funny how the scenario starts to seem real after a while.

Edit, sorry the daughter idea WAS posted by the OP, the drive to BUF was proposed by @AverageJoe, still though, it's all a hypothetical.

I thought we were just helping the OP to examine all the possible scenarios to get home if they tested positive.
