I am looking at booking a cruise plus a week at Disney World. Has anyone done this and been able to get the free dining promo along with it for the land portion? I dont know if promo codes for the land portion are applicable of you are booking the land portion as a pre or post cruise add on. Has anyone done this, or should I book both vacations separately?

I believe, in the past, when DCL did (combined) land and sea packages you couldn't combine the free dining with the WDW portion. Don't know about now that the packages are basically an add on to the DCL reservation.

Have you asked the reservations people?

WDW Free Dining is typically for full-priced room-only offers, and cannot be combined with any other offer/promo. Details can change change though, so if you're looking for a potential next year FD, you may have to book on DCL and then adjust accordingly if a different deal is in your favor once FD is announced in the future.

We booked separate trips in 2014 and had the free dining. We spent 10 nights at WDW but left for the 3 night cruise in the middle of the stay. Since we planned to be at WDW before and after the cruise this worked out well. With the cost of tickets it ended up being less expensive than buying tickets for a split stay.

If I recall correctly we only got a 7 day hopper.

Again, things change all the time but in the past there was no real benefit in booking your WDW stay with DCL. You usually can find better deals and be able to take advantage of pin codes when they come available or take advantage when available of free dining when booking separately.

I never combine WDW and DCL on a reservation. Next month we are doing 3 days at WDW before our 7 night cruise and 3 days after....all booked individually.

You can easily add DCL transfers if you want the seamless experience but the the transfers each way will cost you $35 each (WDW to port and port back to WDW or airport).

I'd book them separately. DCL and WDW are two separate entities. There is no incentive for booking with DCL and they essentially act as a travel agent and will own your WDW reservation.

When we were looking at booking together we were told by many to book it separately as we'd get better pricing on the land portion.

Thanks everyone! I will book separately and look into a car rental. At $70 RT each, I can probably get a rental cheaper.
