Laid off--Support thread

I an still so confused,
I was sent four of the seven weeks, When I get down to three sent I will receive three more for a total of 7 weeks, This says EB on the top.

The woman that I spoke to before they came in the mail said that I exhausted State benefits these were Federal.
I guess this takes me until Christmas maybe, then there will be NOTHING:?
We are depleted at the end of the year for our 401K that has been paying the mortgage.

DH has been off since the end of Feb.

My job is actually posted last week and they will not even respond to the resume. Don't want to pay what my rate was at I guess. But my hour were cut for them to place a coworker dd in the times available. Just stopped scehduling me,

Marie, there was something on the PA Unemployment website about HUP EB (High Unemployment Benefits). This extends the 13 week EB period to 20 weeks and the 8 week EB to 12.8 weeks. In either case, the payments end Jan. 02, 2010, regardless of how many weeks you have left.

I'm thinking that this is what my DH is now getting since the state sent us 4 more mail in sheets. This will take us through the end of the year. I'm not sure if this is connected to the federal extension or is state funded.

The unemployment rate remains high in far too many states for the federal government to not continue to intervene. If the powers that be think that the consumer-driven economy and mortgage mess is bad now, just what do they think is going to happen when several million more people don't have the money to go to pay their mortgages or go to Wal-Mart and buy? I don't think there is really much choice but to continue the extensions until the job market improves significantly, which most experts agree is unlikely to happen in the near term.

:grouphug: to everyone in this awful situation.

So I had a job interview yesterday and wow that was bad.

The job is so not what I was looking for. It was an insurance sales job where you were expected to call and sell low income families an insurance that was not very good and expensive to boot. I did not feel comfortable with the job. I know I am being to picky but my gut told me that if they offer it to me to politley decline.

No, I do not think you are being too picky. Selling your soul, or rather something to those that you know can't really afford what you're selling is just plain wrong.

DH has gotten several phone calls for interviews from insurance companies who want him to "manage" their sales force. :confused3 The man is a construction engineer! What does he know about managing a sales force?? Whenever he asks the employer if they have read his resume they repsond yes and state that his skills are a perfect fit. UMM...I don't think so. I think your company is probably well-known in the industry for some pretty shady business practices. So well-known in fact that there are no well-respected insurance professionals that want to be in any way associated with your firm. It's just crazy. With some of these companies, you've got them preying on people from every angle.

Yes the woman said it was Federal funded, but I mail to Harrisburg, PA. The letter said they are giving me the 7, when I send in the first three, there is an evaluation, and then before I finish the last three, they send 4 more.
THEN WHAT.
I am going to a job fair tomorrow, there is a position for 2 days 4 hrs a day.
I still have the job that is as need, but gosh as need even at $16 an hour is still only 1/2 to 2 hrs a week recently.

DH is being so picky, the holidays around the corner and the recent offer for 3 days a week he said is too stressful. THe one with benefits is driving a uniform drop truck, he won't do that. Tomorrow is warehousing at 1/2 what he was making......he is ticked.

We did not have even $5 the last three days until out UC gets here tomorrow and I still owe the mortgage. It is not about feelings at this point.

I am so stressed.....I hope I can do the 2 days of 4 hrs and keep the on call job too.
I am stupid though......I should do by the contracted piece. I often make a contact for a report and get paid for 1/2 hr work.....In some cases, my expertice, I get paid for an hour when it is well worth hundreds.

Wish us luck at least for the pt time for the next few months.

The three of us on UC right now get called by Bankers Life to sell life insurance to the elderly. They had to have gotten out phone from the site we regestered at like Monster and the career link...
Duh, posted the reume and forgot to remove the phone no. But, now we do not make it public.

It is on there just to upload when we find something.

My prayers go out to you all that are struggling right now. They way people are talking the worst of the recession is over, hopefully things will start turning around

How can he be quiting and turning down jobs and still qualify for unemployment?:confused3

This seems like an unethical job and nobody should be forced to take a job like that.

Thanks for all of the support on this. I got a call from them yesterday wanting a 2nd interview and I politely declined. I told them that this was not the kind of job I could see myself in and thanked them for the opprotunity.

They also found me through Ohiomeansjobs website which is powered by monster.com. I in no way had any sales experience listed nor was this the type of job I was looking for. I feel good that I at least gave it a chance but I just could not do it.

back to the drawing board.

In most states you can turn down employment if it isn't at least 80% of what you made in your previous position.

But in one case he took the job and then quit. It is my understanding that when you go past 26 years the rule you stated no longer applies.

How can he be quiting and turning down jobs and still qualify for unemployment?:confused3

He was not quiting, he was not applying for the temp work..
We went out to the job fair today and it was unique experience. Non traditional job fair, there were several "temp" agencies with various positions at CareerLinks.

The employment for warehousing for dh pay is less a week by a few hundred then what he is getting on UC, no benefits ??????
That won't help.

For me, training is full time for 4 weeks, then 20 hrs a week @ half what I made. The environment is total spanish speaking, and mi espanol es poco poco....

Not local, I would have to travel the mountains in the winter. That is scary.

There was Amazon.com warehousing, Hershey warehouse, but I am not able to lift that kind of weight. I need sedintary work, call answering, or social work. (disabled)

Just whining....:surfweb:

Here in NY you can work up to 3 days per week and still collect partial unemployment benefits as long as you don't make more than $405.00 on those 3 days of work (don't I wish). ;)

What about the Aldi's security job. He quit that one.

What about the Aldi's security job. He quit that one.

Nope, Aldi's is my son's job, dh is a fill in Security only.
He spends more $$$ there then her earns :rotfl:

Same security company has some Mall work this weekend, but it does not affect the UC, it is temp on call. They called him today for tonight and tomorrow. Locked in a Mall shop with repair crew. 9-9.less then $10 an hour.

No work available he can just plug in the hours he works or file for a full When no work is available.....still eligable for UC check.
ALSO, that company charged him $50 to do the clearances, and $150 for uniforms.....

We need him to work a decent steady permanant position. There he is selective. It has to exceed the UC and have benefits for us to survive. $10 an hour is a lot less then UC., but if it was a steady 3 days a week, we can still make it with UC.....That will cover what we have to pay for his medical now and part of the income loss.

Seems no one hires for real anymore. There must have been four "temp" agancies at the so called "job fair". For him to get back in warehousing/forklift near his wage and benefits is not going to happen in this economic time......

I am on a TIcket to Work for my SSDI, my pt time job is $16 an hour as work is available. I had $4 in income for a report contribution this week. (15minutes) You think that I could at least had a minimun of 1 hour charge...they go by the 6 minutes....
Even weeks I do work and exceed the "fulltime" the following week I can reopen my claim.

A year and half ago, I never would believe that we would take this hit.....
On top of that, I had a daughter pass away without insurance.
Made me realize, no way can we count on tomorrow.

Life certainly is a challange every day. Each one is precious, and I just hope we can paddle our way through this economic muddle.
I certainly need dh to be more agressive, at least in going out and placing applications in person.

Well, it is official ... my job working 32 hours per week (5 days) is going to last through June 2010! the money is decent, but again there are NO BENEFITS! What do people expect? I would at least like Bereavement leave should somebody die, God forbid. Or a paid holiday or two? Oh well, at least it is a job. Good luck to everybody else! :cool2:

Maybe 2010 will be better after all. DH was offered a job - starts on Monday - no benefits & long hours - but with this economy we are blessed that he's working.

I am sending everyone warm wished that something will turn up for them soon as well.

Still filing in the paper EB,
no new cases with the PT employer, no new job leads. The dh has not been called for any security work since the 12 and 14 hr shift a few weekends ago. Not even OT after the 8th hour. But none was offered either.

Dipped into the 401K to pay the mortgage, and took a nominal amount out for the Holiday.
I wanted to get a few things for the youngest, dd 14 and my grandson. I found the Mickey Rail Road he wants so much on Amazon, free shipping. The dd wants a game SIMS 3 for the PC. I will check Ebay.

I so wish it were not the holidays.:confused3 Certainly hope there is more hiring and jobs in 2010 for every family.

First of all I want to pass along well wishes to anyone who is still unemployed and struggling :grouphug:. I also wanted to share some information about all the unemployment extensions that are set to expire at the end of 2009 if Congress doesn't vote to continue them before they break for the holiday. If they do not reauthorize these extensions, it will be devastating for anyone who is depending on them. I don't even want to think about how many people will lose their homes . I know a lot of people who are unemployed and it's heartbreaking. Please check out this website:

http://www.unemployedworkers.org/sites/unemployedworkers/index.php

They have a link that gives you the phone number to the Congressional switchboard to express your concerns. Please call! Too many people do not know that they are at risk for losing their benefits. The # to call (toll free) is part way down on this page:
