Anyone watching this? Charla Nash is the woman who was attacked by the 200lb chimp when visiting her friend.

What a horrible ordeal for her. How very sad. Her face is very badly disfigured but she is moving forward and "not looking back". What an attitude to have. How inspiring. She said that she gets up and walks even if she isn't feeling good. Her daughter is a senior in HS and she talks about not being able to help her pick out an appropriate prom dress because she can't see.:guilty:

I didn't catch the whole interview, but she said she would be getting a face transplant and hopefully hand transplants. Uhhh, I hope she is able to move on and have a somewhat normal kind of life. to her and her family.

She is sueing the friend for 50mil dollars.

I went online and looked at the pictures. Besides not having a face, she has no hands and no vision. The chimp owner's insurance company will probably offer their limits, but I bet there's only $500,000 to $1,000,000 in insurance out there.

I hope she wins that suit. I so feel for her and her family.

Where is this online? It sounds horrendous! Why did this friend have a 200 lb. chimp anyhow?

The chimp was a pet and was featured in several television shows and commercials. Some animal experts said, right after the attack, having a chimp as a pet is not a good idea. It is not a matter if the chimp will attack, but when. As male chimps reach a certain age, they become very aggressive and will attack. One animal group tried to buy the chimp from the owner to put it in a safe facility, but she would not sell. Her neighbor paid the price for her mistake.

The people who own the facility that cares for chimps will not even enter the room while the chimps are loose. It is too dangerous. Chimps are not good pets!

I read in the article that the chimp had Xanax in his blood and they don't know if that had anything to do with the violence. Either way, I agree that chimps shouldn't be pets. They're wild animals and quite large.

That poor lady. I can't imagine having a good attitude like she seems to.

Oh, I didn't realize the chimp was an on tv. I can't even imagine how the owner of the chimp could feel. I would feel beyond horrible. I mean there is nothing she can do to make up for it. She can't give her back her face, hands.

she is also suing the state of CT for 150 mil. Her lawyers state that the state and local police knew the chimp was at risk of hurting someone since it had hurt before they didn't do anything to get it somewhere safer. The chimp had wandered off the owners property before and wound up cornering a state policeman in his cvar until they could get the owner to help.
While I feel she should get the money I as a state resident don't know where it will come from. We are being taxed to death and I am on SSDI and can't make ends meet now. I just get so worried that the state has made a mistake and I am going to be the one who suffers.

I heard on the news that the chimp owner was asserting a worker's comp defense, claiming that the victim was actually in the owner's employ and therefore her recovery would be limited to worker's comp benefits. This would insulate the owner from personal liability and severely limit the damages in the case.

I heard that as well and I hope the defense doesn't work.

I'm kind of wishy washy on whether the state has any responsibility. Typically dogs that bite are given another chance and while the chimp had the officer cornered I understand that no one was hurt.

It's so awful though!!! How does anyone make up for something like that?

Chara Nash is an incredibly brave woman. I'm glad she survived, and is moving on with her life.

I do hope she can at least recoup her medical costs.

It was incredibly sad seeing her face.

I actually think it is a good thing she cannot see herself. I feel bad that she can't see her daughter though.

I think the difference would be that chimps have a HUGE amount of strength relative to their body size (four times stronger than humans, according to a quick google search). Yes, a dog can cause a lot of damage, but nothing compared to what a chimp can do.

I felt so sad seeing Charla today- I didn't realize she had lost both eyes as well. I hope the chimp's owner doesn't get away with the workers comp defense. It doesn't sound like Charla was employed as a chimp care taker.

I was thinking the same thing. She was an attractive woman before the attack so on one hand, it's a mercy she can't see herself now. On the other hand, she'll never see anyone or anything else. :( Ms. Nash's will to go on and enjoy her life after losing so much is amazing! She's an inspiration.

I've been watching this case since it happened. I used to feel a lot of sympathy for the chimp's owner, but reading about her lawyer trying to make it a worker's comp case leaves me feeling a lot less sorry for her. She's a lonely widow who substituted the chimp for a human family.

I could be mistaken, but I think she lost her only child. She and her husband somehow acquired the chimp, and it became her surrogate baby. After losing her husband, she got even more attached to Travis the chimp. Her affection for the animal was way overboard. She fed him filet mignon and lobster, and shared her bed with the creature. :scared: She's lucky she wasn't the one he attacked.

If nothing else, this case has hopefully taught the American public that chimps are not suitable pets. I hope that nobody else ever has to go through what Ms. Nash has suffered.

I saw her on Oprah my heart broke for her. I can't even image the struggle she has and will have.
