Ladies - What do you do when you can't see your normal stylist?

I have a problem. My normal hair dresser can't get me in for an appointment until Dec. 8th! (I called last week) Her DD's are involved in cheerleading and I think she coaches. So this is now limiting her time in the salon. I was willing to take any time she had available, but she is booked. I normally don't have this problem, as I can usually get in within 10 days or so.

I desperately need not only a cut, but color as well. If it was just a trim, I think I could find a salon to go to, but color is different.

What would you do? Should I try to find someone else or stick it out for almost a month?

I would talk to your stylist and explain the situation. Hopefully, she will recommend someone else in her salon and also show her your color chart and maybe even explain how she cuts your hair.

Does she work with others? Maybe a co-worker of hers could do your hair using your color formula (although beware I just saw a color nightmare last week because of this same situation).
If it were me, I'd probably wait. No, I know I'd wait. I've had to cancel before and had to wait til my next month's scheduled appointment to get in.
Be sure, if you decide to wait to get on her cancellation list!!

I see who ever I can when it gets to that point. I try to keep up but some times I get caught up. I go to who ever if I can not get an appt. It grows in so its no big deal for me.

I agree with the other posters. When my stylist of five years prices kept increasing (from $35 to her now $67.50!) I explained that I just couldn't pay that price. I asked her who in the salon she would recommend at a lower price. She was able to recommend a junior stylist at $35.00 who does great cuts. Not as brilliant as regular stylist though...But for me it is still awkward getting my hair cut from new stylist especially since chair is right next to old stylist. Your stylist should understand. Good Luck!

I agree with everyone else. If you just can't wait ask her if she will recommend someone because you need the color done sooner than she can fit you in. She should give you or them the color specs for you.

If I could wait I would probably take the next available time and suck it up.

Good luck.

Thanks everyone! I'm really torn... I HATE seeing these roots (and their BAD!) but the thought of someone else doing my hair just doesn't seem right.

At least I know that I'm not the only one that gets in to these situations.

My hairdresser recently cut her hand and will be out of work for a long time. I got an appointment with another girl in the shop and guess what? She gave me the best color and cut of my life! Now I am perplexed as what to do when my original hairdresser comes back!

How about asking your stylist for a recommendation of somebody to do a quick root touch-up and then keep your appt in a month for a full color and style?

Or, you can try one of those 'gone in 6 washes' hair colors and see if it helps mellow out the roots.

I usually just call the place I go and say I want an appointment with anyone they have at 10 on Saturday..I don't care who I get as long as the time works for me.

I always make my appointments for my next hair cut/color at the end of each appointment and then I don't have to worry about not getting my stylist. In the mean time can she put you on a waiting list and call you if someone cancels?
