Hey, it's fine if the menfolk want to chime in too :cool1:

We are making our first trip to FW next Feb. We are camping in our tent. Let me preface this by saying, we are not frequent campers, but we camp maybe once a year for 3 days, max. Locally. So, the idea of heading to FL and camping for a WEEK is exciting, yet scary ;)

We just returned from camping, three days at a state park, first time there. The comfort stations were...um...ok. Honestly, I could not bring myself or my kids to shower, so we did 'ocean bathing'. We considered this trip, in part, a dry run for our Disney camping, and I couldn't stand the bathroom situation for a week, I know that.

I've seen pics of the FW comfort stations online-they look quite nice. Ladies, are they ok? I'm just wondering what to expect, and how others feel about them. I'd figure I'd ask rather than worry for 6 months :flower3:

To be quite honest, I loved them. Now, I'm also one to wear shower shoes no matter where I am. I do wonder about how to bathe the kids (they're 3 & 5) once we take them with on our next trip. We went this past July for a much needed adult time, and I found the comfort stations to be very nice. The showers had adjustable heads, and there was plenty of room in the changing area of the stalls. On a normal day, here in SC where the humidity and heat are also quite intense, I do wear makeup and actually do my hair. But at Disney, I never have unless my DH has said we're doing something special. Haha!! So I can't answer on how easy/hard it is to do hair and makeup in there. But most times I went in there, it wasn't busy at all. Never had to wait for a toilet, sink, or shower. All areas were clean and well stocked with toilet paper/paper towels. I actually liked going in there too at night and would take my time brushing my teeth just to get a small break from the heat and humidity! :) Don't worry about them! They were a worry for me too, for about 30 seconds... Then I remembered, it's Disney! It's gonna be fine! ;-)

There are a couple of electric outlets at the sinks, so bring your blow-dryer. All faucets are motion activated, so you can't leave the water running.

The shower stalls are roomy, and you first step into a roomy dressing area & then you step back into the separate shower stall. Trust me when I say you most likely will never see facilities like this at a State Park. (At least I never have.)

Like all public shower facilities, wear some foot gear in the showers. Disney's very good about keeping the showers clean, however.....

The comfort stations in the loops are Super CLean! My 3 kids and I tent camp at the Fort atleast once a month and in the summer we spend a couple of weeks. I personally have never had a problem using the comfort stations. Everything from the shower stalls to the bathroom stalls are kept up by the cleaning staff throughout the day. Ive never felt uncomfortable taking my kids into the comfort stations. Trust me do not spend the next 6 months worrying over this. The only bathroom in the Fort I dont like is the one at the meadows pool. Not because its filthy cause cleaning staff is in there throughout the day too, but due to wet bathing suits coming in and out all day the floor stays wet. Hope this helps you get over those worries and on to planning all the ways your family is going to have fun! Trust me once you go to the fort once you will be addicted for life :goodvibes Some of us already need a 12 step program to deal with the addiction :rotfl: Have a Great time at the Fort!

The FW comfort stations are by far the nicest comfort stations we have found at any campground we have been to. My DH has had one experience where the mens' CS was not so clean, but I have always found the women's CS to be very clean and well maintained. We have a shower in our pop-up, but we prefer to use the CS at FW since they are so clean and have plenty of hot water!

The lady in our family say it always takes longer because the womens is always more crowded. I say us men get in the shower and out, not taking 45 minutes..

But they are always pretty clean....

We were there in June and found the Women's comfort stations to be very clean and "comfortable" (lack of a better word)
I had two young ones with me and found the regular shower stalls big enough to manouver - however the handicapped stall does not have a seperated area to hold dry items (in case you want to bring all the kids clothes in there with you)
I did find it bothersome that some campers chose to leave their trash (wrappers...) lying around, but that was minor.
There was no stench and it was well lit.
The laundry room was very airconditioned! We froze when we went to do laundry!

I showered inna womens comfort station at a state park in TN.,,it wasn't all that great, but I wouldn't mind showering inna womens comfort station at the Fort, (not that I have,,yet).

Thank you all!!! Your responses ease my mind! It sounds very nice-nothing like that place I was at this week. Phew!!! I won't worry over this anymore :cloud9:

The comfort stations are great. We don't even use the shower in our MH. In fact, we built a platform and put an extra refrigerator in it. You won't be disappointed.

Ok obviously these are pictures of the Men's room, but it should give you some idea

I love the Fort CS. I can spend an hour taking a shower there. Orlando has very hard water, and Disney has a great softner system. Living in Orlando, I didn't always feel that "clean and refreshed" feeling of getting out of the shower, but the Fort ones are great, and even helps to make my hair softer.

There's a rotation of CS "deep cleaning". They'll leave a notice on the door the day before saying that the CS will be closed at 2pm for cleaning. But there's usually one close enough by if you happen to be at your site in the middle of the afternoon.

Some times in the morning, it can be a little crowded. People do stand at the mirror for grooming, which blocks the sinks. But I just turn around and use the huge wall mirror since all I'm doing is brushing my hair, and set my things on top of the trash can.

The showers are plenty big enough for an adult and one kid. I usually leave my bag hanging on the wall outside the stall with my shoes and other things I don't need with me in the shower to keep it less crowded.

Just don't forget to bring your key card if you have a potty break in the middle of the night. Nothing like running there only to run back to the tent.

They are the nicest of any campground I've been at.

So nice, that when I was staying with my brother and parents in their brand new, very clean 5th wheel, myself and my brother and dad chose to shower in them, instead of waiting for my mom to finish in the one in our 5th wheel. And I HATE public restrooms.

Everyone else has pretty much answered everything positive I have to say. :thumbsup2

I would like to add that depending on time of day, they can be very crowded. I've never had to wait on a shower but I've had to wait to use a sink. Ladies will sometimes bring a full size hair dryer/straighter/curling iron and a full bag of makeup and spread it all out on the counter. It can be frustrating when you're in a hurry to get cleaned up and out to a park. I didn't have any problems around 6-7am but 10-11am seemed to be a busy time.

You should wear shower shoes reguardless but that the fort the floors are a bit rough on the bare feet. Spotless though. You can eat off the floor there that clean. Some have they may have a twitch now but they are still alive. lol Kidding aside I will agree with the others. Everything at the fort is top knotch including the bathrooms. You will compare every other campgrounds and facilities to them. Enjoy your trip.

I agree with Thumper_ehhhhh...... you will compare all other campgrounds and facilities to the Fort. We have been to numerous campgrounds all over the southern states and so far none, public or private, has compared to those at the Fort ! Enjoy your trip....you have many other things to worry about than the comfort stations.....dinner reservations, parks to visit, etc, etc, etc.

Agree! My mom is the ultimate restroom inspector -- we joke about how any place rates based on her assessment of the restrooms. But she gives the Fort's a shining approval.

we have not been to the fort yet, but all of the restrooms in the parks seemed very clean to my daughter and I. When we got home everytime we had to go to a public restroom we would say these sure aren't as clean as Disney

Oh my goodness,,your first trip is gonna be such a pleasure !!
I would love to give you the tour of the Fort,:thumbsup2
I do so enjoy see'n folk's first time at experiencing Disney stuff !

Do ya'll hava trip in the planning stage yet ?

I feel OK speaking for DW and DS's GF who accompanied us in May 2009. She had never been camping except for as a girl scout in a tent which she learned was really roughing it and not for her. She joined into our discussion of the comfort stations at the Fort during the trip and thought we were joking at how clean the bath and shower areas were. She and DW partnered up the first day or so, but later the GF was totally OK with going and showering on her own. Like so many have said, wear shower shoes or flip flops. Its just a good habit no matter where you shower whether at a posh gym or state campground.
