I am so sad hearing about Dru Sjodin, the missing young lady in Grand Forks, ND. She was abducted while leaving work. She was talking on her cell phone to her boyfriend, when this evidently happened. PLEASE, when you leave the mall or wherever you are, do not pull out your cell phone and carry on a conversation on the way to your car! You need to be alert to your surrounding and those around you. You should have your keys in hand when you leave the store, be aware of who is around, get in your car and GO. Do not give anyone a chance to get near you! It's a whole different world out there nowadays!:(

I've lived in that world all of my life so I never have that "sense of security" most people experience. I watch every single step and am always aware of my surroundings.

Even so I've been mugged and was almost abducted myself. Five guys tried to pull me into a car. Both times I fought them off and got away, thank God.

This reminder is very needed, especially this time of year. God bless, everyone!

Does anyone know if she's been found yet? I know they arrested a man in connection to her case...

I heard on the news tonight that the blood in connection with that guy the police arrested is a DNA match for hers...and they found her shoe by a lake (or river). :(

I've been following the story too and it makes me so sad. Esp with the new evidence they found (the DNA and her show by the river) I think that river area needs to be their focus personally. Even this sicko's sister was begging police to keep tabs on him. Grrr that makes me so fustrated. :(

As we speak there are 3 guys parked in a truck right next to mine. We can see everything from our office but it still unsettles me. they've been sitting there for a good 2 hours and we aren't sure what they are doing... I think I'll get in on the passengers side :)

preshi do you work in an office building??

My DD#1 happened to be in Grand Forks that weekend visiting friends. They were even in the same shopping mall that afternoon. By the time she left there on Monday morning, there were all kinds of people around.

I heard the sister of the accused and she denies that they ever asked the police to watch their brother.

The evidence sure points to him. So far he denies everything. I feel so sorry for the family. I know they are still hoping to find her alive.

I agree TC...this is just too too sad.........

It just makes me so .................that there are such creeps in the world!!!!!!!!

Hey p-nut,

yeah i work in an offic building. The security guard is usually around. They finally left 2 1/2-3 hours later. That was wierd. I am safe and home :) I don't believe in ever being too careful these days!

OMG Robin - that's awful to hear!

My heart just breaks for her family. I cannot imagine being her boyfriend and hearing that last call from her where she was saying "Oh my God, No!" :( Now even the authorities are doubtful that they will find her alive.

I remember going to a security conference a few years ago when I worked in a retail environment and the guy who held it was amazing and has been on Oprah and other network shows. I just keep in the back of my head whenever I'm alone in a place where I could be vulnerable not to be taken to a "secondary crime scene" - meaning no matter what don't let the attacker get you into a vehicle and drive you away.

I vividly recall him saying if that person has a weapon and you fight back there's only a 50% chance that they'd use it and if they do the chances of you being hurt badly is less than 50%. Meaning your odds survival are better even if you do get stabbed, shot or sustain some other type of serious wound VS being abducted from the area by the attacker. Does that make sense?

I know it's easy to say how we think we might react in a situation like that and there are so many variables we might never imagine that you just never know - but it's just some food for thought, and also something I pray I never have to put to the test.

More than anything I just pray that Dru's family's nightmare ends soon.

I am always ultra cautious when it comes to walking anywhere by myself. This past summer and fall was wicked scary. In my town, Westborough MA, there was a guy going about breaking into apartments and threatening women with knives from their own kitchens and then assaulting them. My roommate and I were totally on alert. I slept with my cell phone right near my bed as well as a pair of scissors. They still haven't caught the guy so it's always in the back of my mind.

Unfortunately the world is full of sickos....:( I am extremely concerned about raising a child in this day and age... Just today, DD's school send letters home reporting that a gentleman (loose term) tried to abduct 2 Middle School girls from their bus stop this morning... Luckily, they paid attention in school and started making all kinds of commotion, yelling "NO! NO!" at the top of their lungs and a vehicle stopped to see what was going on... the guy left as the other one was turning around... :worried: It's a scary world...
