In all my years of have my period I have never had spotting. I just went into the bathroom and I am spotting, I just had my period 10 days ago. I even feel crampy just like right before my period. What causes this? Could there be something wrong? I am not on any birth control pills and haven't been for 3 years because DH had a V 3 years ago.

It could be nothing....sometimes stress, hormones out of whack, having a virus or the flu....just about anything....However, if it becomes a trend, gets worse or new symptoms present....get to your gyno....as you could be developing a cyst on the ovary, uternine fibroids or polyps or uterine hyperplasia that can cause uterine cancer...It probably is an isolated event but dont let it go if it continues.

One of the only times I spotted was when I, unknowingly, miscarried. I was on the pills and had light periods for about 3 months. I had no idea..... Needless to say, there were other things going on that required a visit to the OB/GYN. The second time it was becuase they had switched BCPs and I was still adjusting the the dosage and it messed things up for whatever reason. I was assured it was expected and nothing too be of concern.

If you're not on the pills, I'm really not sure. Can you check www.webmd.com and run a search for spotting or a few other woman-related things?

Not sure of your age, but I spotted when I abruptly went into menopause due to the hormone therapy I am on for breast cancer. I think spotting is pretty common for perimenopausal women. I would go see the GYN.

Do you get hot flashes during pre-menapause? I am only 31, but boy I do get hot flashes! Not very often, maybe a couple times a month. Also my period that I did have 10 days ago was 8 days late. My hormones must be messed up.

Was it a normal period for you? I would make an appt. with the gyn. I would also take a pregnancy test- just to rule that out. I know you said your dh had a V- but it *could* happen. Weirder things have!

Hope everything is ok! :goodvibes

:rolleyes1 the only time I spotted was when I was pregnant. :rolleyes1

However, I am in my mid 40's and things are starting to act a little different. Last month I was 8 days late. This month I was right on time. :confused3

You could be ovulating. Sometimes when you ovulate you experience cramping/spotting. This could be one possibility. It might be a good idea to make an appt. with your gynocologist, to put your mind at rest.

Yep, not only hot flashes but night sweats too.

Welcome to my world! Peri-menopause can hit as early as 30 y.o. and is different for everyone.

Did you know there was an in-home menopause test just like a pregnancy test that you can buy over the counter now? Neither did I until we were discussing it at work one night. It's called Menocheck.

Check out their website for more info and a $2 off coupon. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm going to!

Menocheck website.

Ofcourse this should NOT take the place of seeing your GYN, but it's a helpful tool for those who are unsure, like myself, who have questions and concerns.

That just happened to me a couple of months ago for the first time ever. I am 46 and have always had normal cycles, very predictable, always 5 days in duration until recently. They seem to be coming later and more sporadic in nature, heavier, longer, etc. The last one, I went 14 days, then a week later, I went for 2 days of spotting. The gyne said it was an "anovular cycle", where an egg from the previous cycle does not fully mature, therefore does not expel itself at the normal time. He predicted my next cycle would be normal and on time, and it was, for my typical 5 days. I am also in perimenopause according to the doc. It could be normal, but Please go see your gyne either way, everyone is different. Good Luck!

Yep. I spot when I ovulate and have bad cramping. I swear I can literally feel the egg move thru the channels. LOL

I would take a PG test too. You spot when the egg implants into the uterine lining too.

I'm 46 and have had this for the past 3 or 4 years. It usually starts around day 10 and lasts 3 or 4 days (very light). I get some slight cramps at first. The doctor said it's part of "pre menopause".

Be careful with the gyn saying that abnormal bleeding is just part of the menopause thing.....It can also be a sign of early stage uterine/endometrial cancer. If uterine cancer is caught early it is cured by surgery alone....If the bleeding persists go to the gyn and insist on a ******l sonogram....polyps, hyperplasia of the uterine linging might be found....at that point the gyn will do a biopsy or d and c to determine the cause of the thickened lining and or to remove the polyp or fibroid.
If symptoms continue get it checked out....Dont wait,

Perimenopause does some rather lovely things, I'll tell you. :rotfl: The spotting thing happened to me a couple months ago for the first time ever & I freaked out. DH thought I was nuts. :rotfl2:

If you've been noticing other cycle changes, etc. that might be your problem. :grouphug:

That happened to me too...after it happended a few months in a row I had to g in for a D&C and its been fine since then

How old are you??

I never spot between periods, and I am on the Pill. On RARE occasions I will have literally a dot. Something is usually going on though, like stress or something.

Have you had your thyroid checked recently?

Hyperthyroidism can mimic perimenopause symptoms. You would definitely get hot flashes and abnormal bleeding. It can cause your period to be late, early, and light.

I find my period messes up under stress. Having some stress lately?

A trip to the doc is always a good place to start and blood work! Good call Christine. My OB/GYN did the big bloodwork screening.

I have had a couple of those "ultrasounds" (ick) when I have had "issues". I did have a D&C done once to fix me up.

Make sure you mark all those dates on the calendar to keep track!
