Just looking for any advice. I'm trying to purchase a ladies winter coat, preferably down-filled for some cold-weather travel and can't find anything decent in the stores in Florida. I'm figuring I'll do better to shop online. I've also never purchased a down coat and don't know what to look for in terms of warmth, fill, etc. Anyone have a preference or link to a good store that would have what I'm looking for? Thanks!---Kathy

Lands End has a large variety of winter coats, and they rate them by temperature, wind resistance, etc. Although they are not always the most fashion-forward company, the styles are decent, and the quality is great!

Old Navy usually has nice down coats. They might even be on sale now. I also saw a couple in the Chadwick's catalog. www.chadwicks.com

I just bough a down coat from overstock dot com for $75 after a 12% discount. It's an Anne Klein simple black down coat with a detachable hood. It looks just like the down coat I already have, but needs replacing. I live in NYC, and think it'll be perfect for the winters here.

I got an LL Bean parka on ebay once from a woman in Florida (LOL! Guess she didn't need it anymore!). I paid a good price (like $20 for a coat that goes for over $150) and it's really warm.

Kohls also has down coats, and usually have some great sales.

I will 2nd land's end. They have some nice down coats.
I got a squall parka that is awesome! It's so warm.

Thank you all so much for the great advice. I will check out the above sites and see what I can find. I'm not looking for stylish so much as "warm". Being from Florida I could use a winter coat when it's 60 so I know I'll need a really toasty one in the northeast winter season. I appreciate all the help!---Kathy

I don't know what size you are but lands end has one today on their "counter". this is a while it lasts overstock area. Go to lands end-on the top right click overstocks-then click counter. Scroll through. Just know if it is a good buy it will go fast.

thecompanystore.com has good quality down coats, not jsut blankets. Take a look.

I suggest a 3-in-one jacket! It is 2 coats that zip together to make one heavy coat. :cold: That way you can wear them separately when you return to Florida. :sunny:

LL Bean has the cheapest ones that I can find, the jackets are $89. Maybe you can find some codes on here too!
Here is a link: LL Bean 3-in-one coats

Hope this helps! :wave2:

LLBean will be having their big sale soon, if last year is any indication. I bought one of their 3-in-one coats for $40 with free shipping last year on Halloween from their online store. (they did free shipping from the end of October through Christmas last year.) The original price was $99. It was brand new but from their 2004 winter catalog. I love it. The layers are very practical for our unpredictable Maine weather. In the next couple of weeks, LLBean might put their left over 2005 stock on sale. Their down coats are also quite nice. They were on sale last year, too, but I wanted a ski jacket. I also have a Land's End down coat which is very warm. Both Land's End and LLBean rate their jackets and coats by warmth, which is very useful in choosing the right one for you!
