I'm really REALLY trying not to let all this freak me out but I'm a tiny bit freaked anyways. Last month I woke up one morning to find some unscheduled bleeding and feeling like my left ovary was going to explode. I thought it was due to the umm getting back into the groove activity or just some break through bleeding. I left it at this for almost a week and it was still pretty bad with my left ovary still hurting. I went to the my PMC and she did some testing and thought that I had a miscarriage but also thought a cysts ruptured. Now, I'm seeing a specialized gyno to see if the miscarriage was caused by the cyst bursting or vice versa or just all bad timing.

Do you know anything about being pregnant and carrying full term while battling cysts? This week I've had some blood work done and an intravenous ultrasound, which I get the results next week.

I don't have any information or experience to share with you, Tina.

But I wanted to give you a great big

Can you call the doctor's office and request some information?

I have PCOS - polycystic ovarian syndrome. I have been trying IVF (4 times unsuccessfully); however, I have been told it is possible to carry to full term with cysts - the problem is having the follicles grow instead of cysts. My fertility doctor continues to be optimistic about me (a) conceiving; and (b) going to full term so that means it can be done.

If you have other questions, feel free to PM me.

When I was pg with #3 I had an u/s at 10 weeks and they found a cyst on my right ovary but told me not to worry. Fast forward two months and I had some bleeding, I was freaked. The doc said that the cyst had burst and all was fine with my pregnancy. DD came on schedule with no complications.

Hope you get some answers real soon. Best of luck. :sunny:

My sister has PCOS and had no trouble getting pregnant twice and carrying both babies to term. So I definitely know it's possible. :)

Good luck!

I also have PCOS. I have had 6 miscarriages, but I do have 1 son. When I was preg. with him I had a cyst rupture. I was about 3 months along and had this sharp pain on one side. I thought I was going to miscarry again. Called the Dr. and he said it was a cyst that had ruptured and to keep an eye out for heavy bleeding. I only had spotting with it. It seems the body will sometimes just absorb the cyst and not cause any problems. Other then pain and worry. Not a good feeling and very scary, but I carried to full term. My son is 15 now. Good luck!

do you know if they've tested you for PCOS? Couldn't tell from your post. If you do have this, it is definitely possible to carry to term. For some women, it requires some extra work (like fertility drugs) or just extra time "trying", but I think most women eventually can carry to term. I just got tested for it and read a whole bunch about it (just found out the test was negative :Pinkbounc ).

I just had an ultrasound on Mon. They found 2 cysts about 2mm each on my left overy. The tech and the Doc said it wasn't anything to worry about since cysts develop and burst all the time. I felt a quick shot of pain yesterday, maybe it was one of them bursting. Didn't even think about it until now.

I hope you find out your answers and get back to creating a baby soon!!! :grouphug:

6 years ago I had a melon-sized cyst surgically removed from my left ovary and 2 small ones from the right. It was then that I found out that I have endometriosis. The doctor thought that due to the size of the cyst, I'd had it since I was at least 11 and that it may be part of the reason that I had a miscarriage when I was 18. She did say that I may have trouble having a baby now that I'm in my 30s, but not to worry just yet, we won't know until I try and we'll deal with it when/if that's the case.

Not sure if this is same as you but with my third pregnancy I woke up with horrible pain, some spotting in my 4th month. The doctor at hospital told me I had cancer...WHAT?????? I needed to have a complete hesterectomy, terminate the pregnancy! This is at 4 in the morning. They wanted to send me to our university hospital because there is an excellent oncology department there. So in pain and in a snow storm my DH drives me 45 miles to what we feels is the end of my pregnancy (his first child) and they had given me a fairly sure death sentence. Long story short......got to the university, talked to the oncology doctor...she was great. Not only did she tell me we don't think this is cancer BUT if it is we will not terminate the pregnancy and we'll get you through. She said we're going to operate today, not because it's urgent but because you are in pain and we're slow today :rotfl:

Ends up....being a grapefruit size cyst. Close to rupture. It had twisted my ovary. They operated, removed it. Saw my baby in the uterus (how cool is that). I was fine, no cancer. I carried to term and had a healthy baby girl. She is 5 now.

Having cyst can be hard...but it's possible to get pregnant and carry to term. Get second opinion if in doubt. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!

Big ((hugs)) Tina, I am so sorry sweetie  . Not sure what tests she ran to come to conclusion of your miscarriage and cysts....each on it's own would be extremely painful...let alone both :worried:. Shouldn't they have done a D&C immediately if miscarriage was suspected?

Our daughter suffered yrs with painful ovarian cysts that would not rupture and had many laparoscopies. Thankfully she went on to carry two babies full term w/o any problems even while having cysts at the time. Finally had surgery to remove part of ovary causing problems and praise God went on the have her 3rd blessing. :goodvibes

:shamrock: Good luck, hope you get some answers and feel better soon. :goodvibes

I am sending you great big hugs too. I have problems with cysts too. I got pregnant with our third child while battling them. It scared me a whole lot but my doctor was great and eased my fears by keeping close track of any pains I experienced while pregnant. Other than going into labor at 26th weeks (which they stopped), I had no major complications and now have a happy vivacious 2-year old!!

Hang in there and don't be afraid to let your doctor know about any pains while pregnant, it's their job to help you.

I have ovarian cysts due to PCOS and have had multiple miscarriages but they're not connected.

Did they give you a reason why they suspected a miscarriage? The only reason I ask is my dr told me I was having a miscarriage at one point and that was the pain I was in, I disagreed with them and they did blood work and transvag. ultrasound, it was a ruptured ovarian cyst and the blood work came back with it being too low to have been pregnant.

I had the samething happen (10 years ago) but my preg. test was negative so they diagnosed me with a hemoraghic (sp) cyst. They saw it was ruptured and the fluid was NOT clear. Needless to say about 3-4 weeks later and continued bleeding and pain they figured out it was a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. Ended losing one fallopian tube but still managed to have 4 kids with only one of those darn things... :confused3 Almost the same thing happened to my DSIL last year. She is a RN and knew of my experience and they still wouldn't diagnose the ectopic for about a week. She kept her tube and was treated with methotrexate. Strange, but they seem to miss this diagnosis more than I thought they would. Take care. Amy

I am also concerned about it being an ectopic pregnancy as opposed to a miscarriage. I have PCOS, has a miscarriage, and ectopic PG, and went on to have two healthy children (one PG was not full term, though).

Have the doctors done blood tests to make sure the "miscarriage" is complete? If your Hcg levels continue to increase, or do not go down to less than 5, there could still be come fetal tissue left in there somewhere.

Did the u/s definitely show cysts on your ovaries? People have cysts, and ruptured cysts all the time, and go on to have healthy pregnancies.

If it were me, I would insist on some more testing to both figure out what happened this time, and to explore the possibility of something else happeining in the future? If you do have PCOS, there are medications which help some people ( - me) conceive.

Thank you for your responses. I get the results of my u/s and bloodwork on Monday. I've always had some little cysts on my ovaries but when I started with the pain and unscheduled bleeding I was freaked. We weren't actively trying to get pregnant and I'm still on the pill. I just wanted to know from some that have had the experience that its possible to carry to term. Now I'm pretty worried but better after hearing first hand stories.

I also believe that it could be an ectopic pregnancy instead of a miscarriage because the bleeding lasted over two weeks. Somedays it was just spotting and some days it was like a normal period. It took almost a month to get the paperwork in for my insurance to see the gyno and by then the bleeding had stopped. The PCM said she couldn't do a D&C because I hadn't been preggo for 10 weeks nor did I ever have a positive pregnancy test(I never took one at home and didn't suspect anything) The gyno mentioned last week that I couldn't be formally diagnosed with PCOS unless I went off the pill and started to "try" to get pregnant, which we aren't quite ready for, as we have recived orders for the next deployment already. I have a list of questions that Im getting together for the doctor appt on Monday and I think Matt wants to go though that stuff gives him the jeebies. I think he is more freaked than I am, lol but thats a man for you. Thank you all for your stories and well wishes I so appreciate it.

:grouphug: I hope everything is ok, and it was just a ruptured cyst. I had a miscarriage, and I had a painful ruptured cyst years later. Neither was related though. And I was fertile myrtle!

Matt is deploying again?? Hope that is not soon! :guilty:

Let us know how it goes Monday.

Tina, sorry you are going through this and that they don't have answers for you. I would worry too about ectopic as well, but if the bleeding has stopped, you might be okay. If it was a miscarriage as well, I am sorry for your loss... I know you two eventually want kids at some point. Did you ever take a pregnancy test yourself? I read through your posts and that wasn't clear for me. I am not sure why they will not do a D&C though, I know if you aren't 10 weeks they can still do a similar procedure but won't need to dialate. Only after 10 weeks do they need to do that part of it. But I had a friend who had a D&C at 8 weeks. Sadly I am going in for one tomorrow at 12. I just am shocked they wouldn't check out more and they didn't tell you what they saw while doing the ultrasound.

As for redeployment :( I am sorry he is going back so soon  Hang in there and good luck with all this. I don't have any issues with cysts, but I admit this is the 2nd time I am shocked with anything a doctor has told you about pregnancy. I hope that things look up for you soon!
