Ladies... Dark hair on upper lip??

I use the Sally Hansen facial stuff - usually the remover (but they make a bleach too)

I went to the Beauty Supply store and couldn't find it. What is the name of it?

I HATE being hairy.

I use the Jolen Creme Bleach so I have brown hair and a blonde mustache!

DH is doing the lasar hair removal on his back. He says that it doesn't hurt at all, so on a sensitive part of the face it probably just hurts a little (I bet less than waxing - ouch!).

I had my legs waxed once (too painful for me) and while I was there, I read the price list for all the areas of the body they treat....it made me very very grateful to have light hair!

You're a good mom for taking care of this. My mom was a little TOO much on the "you're beautiful as you are" end of the spectrum...I really wish she would have helped me with my appearance more as a teen. (I have tiny little eyes and every time I see pictures of my teen/young adult self I ask "Why didn't anyone clue me in to eye makeup???!!!)

I know there is a 'sally hansen beauty supply store'...however this stuff - also called Sally Hansen (same brand as those that make the Sally Hansen nail polishes) - is sold at drugstores like CVS, Wal-Mart, Rite-Aid, Walgreens, Target, etc...even at the grocery store.

here's the link to their website - and you can check out all the products.

(the brush on is nice - but I find I waste alot of the product and it dryes out fast - get the other one in a tube)

They came out with a new 'spa' line too...I actually need to pick some up this week...might try that one! heheh

Wow! This IS a common problem.

Funny thing is, it bothers ME not her. She's not a "girlie" girl.

Thanks for all the advice!

This is such a common problem, but I gotta say my mother better not embarrass any possible future DDs I may have by making comments like that, or I'll really let her have it.

I could tell you stories to curl your hair about the sometimes nasty stuff my Mom says. She's 84. I would have let her have it, but I didn't want to further DD's embarrassment!! She'll hear it from me soon, though!!!

Yes, it is a common problem. One of those things women used to not talk about but now you can, thank goodness. It was like you were in the "hairy closet".

Thanks for the info belle! I'll check it out for my dd!!!

How much does Laser Hair Removal cost? I thought it was many thousands. Is it really affordable?

i have mine sugared which is like waxing only not as hot and it seems to cling to the hair better because it's thicker. I pay 7 bucks for my lip and 7 for my eyebrows but the laser thing is starting to look like a good idea!

I think the laser treatment is a few hundred bucks, which would pay for itself in a year or two (compared to salon waxing.)

I think women just LIKE to be in pain.

Sugaring, waxing, chemicals ALL can cause rashes and skin damage.

Nothing wrong with little blue bic razors....a little soap on the upper lip while you're in the shower, two strokes with the razor (upward strokes) and problem solved. Do it every time you shower and it works just fine.

And it's cheap too! LOL

To the OP: If nothing else, you can tell you DD that she is not alone!!!

I know shaving makes the hair grow in a lot thicker, and on the face that's not fun. At least when you wax, you don't get stubble the next day.

You'll probably have to experiment with a few things until you find what you like. I vote for the wax...it really does lessen the hair over time.

I use the Sally Hansen creme bleach, get the tube at Target. When my daughter was born and I saw a picture of exactly how dark my "moustache" was, I was horrified... right to the store I went!

Now, my daughter actually uses the bleach on her arms in the summer because her forearm hair is so dark... My mother never bleached or would go to a beauty salon when I was young... I don't know how I would have gotten along without it!!

I have over 20 years experience w/ this problem.
My DM was also very sensitive to how I felt about my appearance. I started getting facial hair quite early. My DM sent me to have electrolysis in early 80's when I was in high school. Before that I had used gallons of Nair etc, I bleached, etc.
The electrolysis did not last permantly so now I do something called Threading. Ancient Egyptian method of hair removal or pure h***. You take your pick. Basically it involves twilling string between your hands and in process it grabs hair and yanks them out. I have this done on my upper lip and chin area.
The good news is it works perfect. Bad news is hurts pretty bad, at least the first couple of times.
I was getting my hair cut on Friday and there was a girl in middle school getting her eyebrows waxed. I expressed surprise that someone so young would be getting waxed and they said the boys were teasing her at school about her "unibrow". Poor kid.

The hair just feels more course because it's a blunt end, it doesn't grow in thicker at all. :)

Not to mention the fact that for waxing you have to let the hair grow out enough to allow the wax to get a good grip. I don't know any young lady who'd want to wait long enough to have the fuzz grow out.

This is just one more conspiracy to make women spend money. :p ;)

I've never had any skin problems with the sugar , it's barely even red afterwards but just in case my girl puts on tinted lotion after she does her thing.

I would recommend either waxing or threading.

I was always told to never shave the upper lip since it would cause the hair to grow in darker and thicker.

I have done both..was able to tolerate the threading when I was younger..not now though :(

I cannot comment on electrolysis..sorry

Hope this helps

Another suggestion are the cold wax strips. No chance at all to burn with those; you warm the strip between your hands, and then peel it apart, giving you 2 wax strips (one for each side). They work very well. If your daughter is already accustomed to waxing her eyebrows, she shouldn't have a problem at all with it. Just remember to make the skin taut (always helps to read the directions, too!)

Not sure if this link will work, but this is what I'm talking about:

Good luck with it!

Geeze, thanks Mom!

I'm going to look into the permanent hair removal. I just want to have to stop making facial hair removal part of my daily routine!
