I just started going back to the gym after a several year lay off -- about 5 years. The same gym I always went to, at the same time.... late mornings.

Wow, things are different. The day time hours have always had a majority of women there. I guess due to SAHM stuff, or silmilar.

Anyway, except for the women, let's say, over 40, most of the women in my gym are very hard core! They are built like Mack Trucks!. They have muscles on top of their muscles. They sweat harder than any man I see in the gym, though I am one of the few men there during the late morning, early afternoons.

They have more tatoos than a lot of men.

I don't know, it just seems strange to me. I'm not saying anything is wrong with that, but it is definitely a different , I don't know, shall we say, "style" of woman who seems to be pumping the iron.

Reasons? Agree? Disagree?

No need to flame... this is just an observation, not a judgement.

Sounds like it may be more professional women bodybuilders. Most SAHMs don't have the time to put into that unless they're working at it professionally, just ask a couple if they are competitors.

All the SAHMs are down at the local Curves hiding from those women at your gym!:teeth:

(NOT meant as a slam: I'm a Mom who joined Curves to escape the muscle bound culture of most regular gyms, too.)

LOl, your post made me laugh! I would still have to say that some of the marines that I know still have more tattoos than most women.:D

I consider myself kind of a hard core exerciser. I was an athlete (swimmer) and lifeguard in school. My physique is nothing like the ones that you have described. I know very few women that ahve the capacity to "bulk up" like that.

If you saw me you would probably label me as slender to average. I still get guys who try to do physical things for me all of the time, because I guess they assume that I am frail. (lol);)

I do try to do some form of exercise everyday. I do weights three times a week.:sunny:

"OUCH!" This said from an over 40 woman who prefers her ho-hos over touch toes! :o

all I have to say is...

WOOHOO FOR THOSE LADIES! We need to kick butt! but strong in body doesnt always mean strong in mind! ;) Anyway as a tattooed stronger woman I do have to say that it may be just so they feel better about themselves is all..

I would describe myself as a "hardcore" exerciser--I do 1-1.5 hrs. of intense cardio 4x/week, and lift weights for the same amount of time 3x/week--I love working up a good sweat and I know I don't look pretty while I'm doing it! :crazy2: When I lift, I go heavy, but in *no way* am I near the musculature of a true bodybuilder--my biggest accomplishment so far is being able to out push-up my dh! Heh heh. :teeth: That particular physique is not one I'm personally striving to attain, but I admit that I love to see women pumping up and getting strong (except for steroid usage, of course)--you know the whole "you've come a long way, baby" kind of thing? :D That said, I'm also the ultimate stereotypical "girlie girl"--I *love* hair, makeup, nails and clothes! Although I'd love to say that I work out for my health, I'd for sure be fibbing if I did!
