I was diagnosed as having this Middle Schmertz Syndrome about 2 years ago. Honestly I think it's a crock. I really think they slapped some scientist's name on something. I have been tested in full w/ sono's, biopsies (to be safe) the whole nine yards- multiple times spread out. I have severe ovarian pain on the right side almost every month for the last 2 weeks of my cycle. Like tonight the pain is a 8 out of 10- which is about common. I have seen multiple doctors for this and they all say I can take some pain meds- but thats about it. Otherwise the ovary is healthy and they can't do anything else. I am sick of being in so much pain every month-- anyone else ever get this weird named diagnosis?????

I get it - but not to that extent. With me my abdomen just becomes really tender. Usually one side hurts more than the other. But I do know other women who get those symptoms pretty bad.

Middle Shmertz is just the technical name for any pain felt during ovulation. If you want to get rid of the pain, hot compresses on your abdomen might help. The birth control pill will also stop you from ovulating and therefore prevent the middle schmertz. How on earth it got that name I'll never know though. ;)

Hmmm. Middleschmertz usually does not go on for that long, because technically it is ovulation pain. Sounds to me like perhaps your corpus luteum cyst (the cyst that remains where the egg pops out of your ovary every month) is hemorraghing. I had a hemorraghic corpus luteum once. SEVERE pain. Then again, this is something that can be seen on a trans******l ultrasound, so if you have had that done it seems like the tech would have seen it.

I am really sorry you're having trouble getting a dx. I have had many "female" problems and it took me FIVE doctors until I finally got a diagnosis and the proper treatment. Good luck!

My ovulation pain only last for about 1/2 day. Sometimes it is worse than others but only once was I doubled over in pain. I can't imagine being in that kind of pain for 2 weeks. I hope you can find some relief.

This is the diagnosis they gave me- by multiple doctors. It definetly goes on for the full 2 weeks. I've had 5 trans-V ultrasounds in the last 18 months. I also have severe PCOS- but they aren't supposed to be painful. Some months are okay w/ minimal pain and others (like this one) are really rough- this one is exceptionally rough.

Yep, I have it. Once I had the pain for 12 hoursstraight. That's when I went to the emergency room. Had tests done. Doc saw a cyst, the kind that burst, comes and goes, gave me pain meds. Went to the gyno for a follow-up. She said I would not have pain from that, that is was probably mid-schmertz. She said the pain could be controlled by birth control pills, patch, etc. So that's what I did, took the pain away but now I get migraines from using the patch.
