Ladies and the humidity- How to tame your hair?!

My thick, heavy hair waves and kinks in the humidity, but doesn't completely curl. When it was long, I would wear a ponytail in hot/humid weather. Now it's in layers and a bit shorter, so I pull the top and sides into a barette. Don't love it, but it's out of my face! *LOL*

The only hair product I use (other than shampoo & conditioner) is Bumble & Bumble something or other that controls frizz. A friend gave it to me and I've been using it on my freshly washed hair ever since! Just need a tiny bit. :)

I have thin, straight hair that gets crazy in Florida humidity!! I've tried everything, and my new strategy is to slap on a headband or bobbi pins and go!

I let my wavy hair air dry all summer. The humidity makes it "fuzzy" if I blow it dry. I like John Freida's Dream Curls spray and whatever gel I can get free after ECBs at CVS. I only shampoo once a week; get it wet and lightly condition the other days of the week.

In the summer I do not even atempt to flat iron it. I just go curly. I put in a little curl gel and some spray after the shower and let it air dry. It normally goes up into a ponytail shortly after that. But it looks better than if I would have attempted to straighten it.

ME TOO -- EXACTLY!! I won't even attempt to fight it. I'm not even going to pack my flat iron with me on my August trip. I'll just be a "curly girl" for this vacation!

I have magic hair, when I hit the florida state line my normally wavy hair turns into nice little cute curls, like I've had a movie star stylist work on it. There is something about that humidity that makes it perfectly curl and even looks cute in a pony tail, I let it air dry with a little gel (I like Bed Head and Aussie super hold) and I'm good go to. We have humidity at home but I tend to think its the extra pixi dust that makes it do that. It's the other 350 days a year it looks like junk! :rotfl:

OMG, you must be my twin.:) My hair act the very same way. We have a horrible humidity in NY but I never get curls here. In Disney I always get, those cute curls like a doll.

I get my hair conrow braided! I'm 42 years old and I feel like it looks riduculous but I always get compliments on my braids when I get to Disney! I get them done at a beauty school 1-2 days before I leave and it has cost me as little as $12.00 + tip. I know the salons in Disney do them also but they cost upwards of $100 there. You can't beat the cornrow braids - I jump right out the shower every morning and I am ready to go - no blowdrying, no brushing, no pulling my hair back, and no products aside from sunscreen!!

For the past 3 years I have done the Keratin hair treatment. It is very expensive, but worth EVERY dollar I spend getting it done. My hair is soft, shiny, and straight! NEVER frizzy! I have ok hair, but Florida gives me brillo head. I love my hair after the Keratin treatment, no products are needed and a quick easy blow-dry, that is it. It is the only way for me to really enjoy Disney and be fretting over what I look like. One year I wore a plastic bag on my head during a down pour, so when we got to dinner I won't have brillo head. You can imagine how much my kids iked that...

I've got long curly hair. I don't even try to straighten unless we're in Florida in January/February. I wash/wet my hair in the morning and either braid or put it in a pony tail. Waayy too hot to wear it down! I'm gonna try the Walmart Silkworks stuff to see what that does to my head!

Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny Serum. I actually get the generic from Sally Beauty and it works really well. There's also a spray on/leave in Ion-brand conditioner that drastically cuts down on the frizz (also at Sally beauty). I used both on my last trip in June and no problems!

I swear by "Living Proof No Frizz " http://livingproof.com/buy/no-frizz-straight-treatment . this stuff has been a miracle. I think I've tried just about everything, and then I got a sample of this and I'll never go back. I love it. I don't even have to flat iron my hair when I use this....but if I do, it makes my hair so shiny and soft.

I've got really think wavy hair that tends to get VERY frizzy around any kind of humidity. (Think the Friends episode w/ Monica in Jamaica.....) It actually makes my hair feel "less heavy" and less thick. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it !!

DITTO...I LOVE this stuff...they have several differant products..and they work GREAT..if you have a sephora near by they sell it..and have smaller travel sizes ..the lady also gave me a ton of samples so i could see which i liked best..my hair has NEVER looked so good in the summer...even after a beach day still no frizz or curl. i love the spray and the cream..treatment is WAY to much for my hair

I have a short pixie and simply spray some styling lotion in it and let it air dry.I am lucky I can get away with short hair that looks good and minimal effort. But when I had longer hair I just put it up in a pony while at WDW

I am chuckling...I would love to try some curly hair. My hair is super straight and fine. When I hit that August WDW humidity, it falls flat to my head. Not a single ounce of body will stay in it even with tons of hairspray. Send some of those curls my way...PLEASE!!

I have some crazy curls, and when I went last August, it was NOT pretty. :scared1:

April was much easier to manage my hair, but as I will be there in the next few weeks, I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas for gels or something to keep down the volume and frizz.

Just want some normal looking pictures you know?

My best bet is to let the be. We sell a product that awesome it called "Deva Curl"

Call a few salons, see if the sell this product, if so make an appointment and have the stylist show you how the product is used, You'll be impressed. Curls are back in.

The other solution is you could get a Keratin Treatment it will relax your curls a little or a lot, depending on what your likes are. Keratin is a natural product that does not damage your hair.

This is EXACTLY what I just started doing this summer. It is SOOOOO much easier than spending an hour flat ironing - just to walk outside and POOF! The trick to the non-frizzy curls is the AIR DRYING. Forget the diffuser business. When you get out of the shower - don't even towel dry. With your hair sopping wet, put in some leave-in conditioner & brush that through. Then do your gel & scrunch. Blow out your bangs if you have any & don't want those curly. And you are DONE! You do have to allow yourself time for your hair to dry, but it just takes a little planning. I check my email & drink my coffee while my hair dries.

oh - and I have been getting tons of complements all summer! Good Luck!

ME TOO -- EXACTLY!! I won't even attempt to fight it. I'm not even going to pack my flat iron with me on my August trip. I'll just be a "curly girl" for this vacation!

Great minds think alike! :thumbsup2

Oh wow, I thought I was the only person who seriously worried about this sort of thing. So bad was the frizz factor last year in Orlando that I actually avoided the camera. Dumb move, as now I have a bunch of photos of my son at WDW, but none of me. In previous years I have given over to clips, hats and headbands.

I live in Sydney and we have some pretty fierce summertime humidity.

When I was younger my hair was curly but as I've gotten older the natural curl has sort of "fallen" and now if I dry my hair naturally, even with oils and specialist conditioners, it just goes into a dull, pouffy, frizzy mess.

I have to agree with the poster who recommended the Keratin treatment that you get at the hair salon. :worship: It made my hair soft, smooth and frizz free but it still has body and bounce, and most of all - shine! It survived a Sydney summer beautifully, I only had to blow dry on a few occasions when I was in a hurry and couldn't wait around for it to dry naturally, and even then I could just blast away with the drier for 10 minutes or so and it fell into place - no need to section clip and brush and smooth and section clip and brush and smooth etc etc for half an hour, only to have it all puff up as soon as you leave the air conditioning.

It's pretty expensive down here, but after your wallet gets over the shock :scared1: you end up saving a lot in expensive conditioners and salon blow dry's, and the freedom it gives you is great. I now actually don't dread summer like I used to because of what it would do to my hair. And if you get it done at the beginning of summer it last the whole season through.

I'm looking forward to testing it out in FL in a couple of months - am having the treatment done again a couple of weeks before I go. Also looking forward to seeing how it handles in the rain and fog next year in London.

In March, I went in with great intentions of having great hair in my photos - I had it cut and highlighted a week before we left and bought a new bottle of silk drops from Mastercuts. Well, I forgot the silk drops, so I made do - and on sunny days, I was fine. But after one good Florida storm and some water rides, I just gave up and let the curls take over. There was no point to even trying after it got wet!

Incidentally, I think I had only one REALLY good hair day - at DHS. No water rides and we had a beautiful day with hardly any humidity. Needless to say, those are the pics I show most often ;)

Wash hair and while wet use some Care Free Curl Gold, scrunch and air dry. I live in So Fla and finally gave up trying to keep it straight.

I swear by WEN cleaning conditioner. I have long curly hair that I wear straight everyday. You have to make a commitment to switch from shampoo but it is well worth it!

I was in Baltimore this past weekend where they had a heat advisory and the heat index was 105+ and I didn't have any trouble with my hair frizzing. Once I blowdry, it is almost straight already (from using WEN for over 7 months now), so I just run the straight iron through it to clean it up. Only need to wash every 3 days.

My MIL bought this and I tried it for a couple of days while in Maine and liked it. She has really short hair and felt it wasn't for her and is giving me her last shipment. I can't wait to use if for a several straight weeks. It made my hair very silky feeling. My hair is a combo-straight on the top and then gets curly halfway down(curls appeared after pregnancies). It gets pretty frizzy in the humidity and I am hoping the WEN works for that!! Glad to hear you like it so much.

I have naturally thick wavy hair and it loves to do the whole Florida frizz. At Disney I definately embrace the wavy hair, let it air dry, and won't even attempt to straighten it.

I do recommend keeping your hair hydrated with your shampoo/conditioner/leave in conditioner. But I am also a big fan of Garnier. It is cheap and it works well with my hair.

Specially I recommend Garnier Fructis Style Brilliantine Shine Glossing Spray. It adds shine to your hair without weighing it down and it smooths out the frizz. The bottle is small and lightweight so I usually throw it into my bag while at the parks. That way I can spray it on and use my fingers or a small travel comb/brush to tame my hair a bit in the afternoon. I never use water which usually only makes it worse. Garnier shine products work for me so hopefully it might work for others! :woohoo:

Me too!! I voted for just go with that big frizzy hair! I personally love that look! My best friend has naturally curly short hair and she does it all frizzed out into an 'afro' style and it looks like a fashion model! Mine does nothing!!:headache:
