Ladies and the humidity- How to tame your hair?!

I have some crazy curls, and when I went last August, it was NOT pretty. :scared1:

April was much easier to manage my hair, but as I will be there in the next few weeks, I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas for gels or something to keep down the volume and frizz.

Just want some normal looking pictures you know?

In the summer I do not even atempt to flat iron it. I just go curly. I put in a little curl gel and some spray after the shower and let it air dry. It normally goes up into a ponytail shortly after that. But it looks better than if I would have attempted to straighten it.

This is EXACTLY what I just started doing this summer. It is SOOOOO much easier than spending an hour flat ironing - just to walk outside and POOF! The trick to the non-frizzy curls is the AIR DRYING. Forget the diffuser business. When you get out of the shower - don't even towel dry. With your hair sopping wet, put in some leave-in conditioner & brush that through. Then do your gel & scrunch. Blow out your bangs if you have any & don't want those curly. And you are DONE! You do have to allow yourself time for your hair to dry, but it just takes a little planning. I check my email & drink my coffee while my hair dries.

oh - and I have been getting tons of complements all summer! Good Luck!

Moroccan Oil. Its expensive ($30 for a small bottle where I live), but it is WORTH it. I put it in my hair wet, and again when its dry. And its not as oily as one would think. I only wash my hair 2 times a week and put this stuff in daily, sometimes multiple times a day. It makes your hair SO soft and really tames the curls/frizz, especially in humidity. And it smells delish!!

My hair is short, super thick and quite curly and it really does the job for me. I don't use hairsprays or gels.. JUST the oil! The best part is..no stiff, sticky hair!!

Should be available at any major beauty supply, but Walmart also carries an "off brand" that might be just as good?!

While my hair is not curly, it does friz big time in the humidity. I wore my hair up with a clip on our WDW vacation 6 years ago.

The thing that has gotten rid of the friz is a process call Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy by Coppola! It is done by my hairdresser. I have medium length hair. This process takes about 4 hours (for me) but longer for longer length hair and lasts for 3 -4 months! It gets rid of all of friz caused by humidity! I gave it a good test in New Orleans in June (95 degrees and 95%humidity) and my hair did not friz!

If you would like to see some before and after pictures of this process, go to Facebook and look up e11even.

My hair is slightly wavy and turns frizzy and rough texture in the humidity. My avon rep gave me a sample of a new product called Lotus Shield and it worked great. I was out for several hours in 90 degree plus 95% humidity the other day and my hair looked the same when I got home.

My vote is for Moroccan Oil as well....love, love, love it for my coarse, thick, frizzy hair and it is worth the extra $. The curling creme from that line is great as well - I use the curl creme when it's wet, then the oil when my hair is starting to dry (or sometimes on dry hair if it needs a little extra taming) and no hair dryers. Once I gave up on the hair dryers and flat iron, my hair became much more agreeable and I also get lots more compliments on my hair.

Silkworks Professional - that's the stuff I got at Walmart. It's amazing! It even keeps my stray wiry white hairs down with the rest of my hair. We've been having some Florida-style heat and humidity up here in New England, and my hair has stayed silky and smooth, even my crazy cowlick bangs. No frizz, no pouffy, wild bangs.

I better not forget to pack it for our WDW trip next month!

Normally I towel dry my curly hair and then put in some curling mousse (can't remember the name right this second) and scrunch and leave it for the day.

For Disney in September I towel dried, put in the mouse and then braided my hair for the day. Not the trendiest style but it worked and my neck was cool!

See now, this is one of the only times I'm thankful for my naturally stick straight hair!
Personally, I think a big, natural afro looking head of hair is so fashionable and cute! How about letting it frizz out and putting it into two pigtails? I always (you can see from my pics) put my hair in pigtails when I'm being active. Not only is it cute (I always get lots of 'awww - cute' compliments) and unexpected, but it keeps it off of your face and neck!:goodvibes

My hair is super curly and fine. A few years ago I gave in (to dave time & money) and started wearing it curly.

I put a little conditioner in it after I wash and leave it in (even if it is not a leave in conditioner). Allow hair to air dry. Then I use a little more conditioner (very little) to style my hair--spray and don't touch it anymore. The more I touch my hair, the worse it gets.

It may get very curly in the humidity, but with the air dry, condition & don't touch philosophy, the frizz is minimized.

On lazy days I pull my hair back in a headband and let the curls go wild.

I have used mousse or gel in the past too, but they tended to look crunchy unless I finger combed the curls out--and the more I touched my hair the frizzier it got, so it was a losing battle.

The Bed Head After Party product worked quite well to tame frizzies, but not really any better than my cheap Pantene condiitoner that I leave in.

good luck!

I swear by WEN cleaning conditioner. I have long curly hair that I wear straight everyday. You have to make a commitment to switch from shampoo but it is well worth it!

I was in Baltimore this past weekend where they had a heat advisory and the heat index was 105+ and I didn't have any trouble with my hair frizzing. Once I blowdry, it is almost straight already (from using WEN for over 7 months now), so I just run the straight iron through it to clean it up. Only need to wash every 3 days.

First, I'll begin by admitting I cut my own hair. It began when I worked in the Caribbean and was not often close to someone who could cut it well.

Having said that........

Remember the chocolate factory on the Lucy show years ago (ok, you youngsters may not have seen it). Anyway, in the summer, that's how I cut it.....a little more frantic with each uptick in the temperature!

In the summer - it's short and cropped well off my neck.

I have magic hair, when I hit the florida state line my normally wavy hair turns into nice little cute curls, like I've had a movie star stylist work on it. There is something about that humidity that makes it perfectly curl and even looks cute in a pony tail, I let it air dry with a little gel (I like Bed Head and Aussie super hold) and I'm good go to. We have humidity at home but I tend to think its the extra pixi dust that makes it do that. It's the other 350 days a year it looks like junk! :rotfl:

Same here...anytime I have tried to straighten it, (with the exception of december), it ended up curled anyway....

I swear by "Living Proof No Frizz " http://livingproof.com/buy/no-frizz-straight-treatment . this stuff has been a miracle. I think I've tried just about everything, and then I got a sample of this and I'll never go back. I love it. I don't even have to flat iron my hair when I use this....but if I do, it makes my hair so shiny and soft.

I've got really think wavy hair that tends to get VERY frizzy around any kind of humidity. (Think the Friends episode w/ Monica in Jamaica.....) It actually makes my hair feel "less heavy" and less thick. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it !!

My hair is straight and doesn't get too poofy, but I'm not even bringing ANY hair products with me when we leave (tomorrow!)

It's going to be so hot, there's no way I'll wear my hair down because it's long and feels really hot. I'm just going to ponytail it every day.
