I thought i heard that it comes out next week, does anyone know for sure?
i cant wait to get it for my dad--hes a fireman and didnt have time to go see it in the theater---right now, im watching backdraft with him and im getting all teary--(he never let me watch it while i was younger so i didnt get scared when he went to work)..evne now, im 20 , and im like "you do check the door before you go in, right??"

THanks if anyone knows!

thanks dan..

im now very glad my dad didnt let me watch this before--i just was crying..but i did cry worse in ladder 49--has Vince seen that yet?

There are a couple scenes in ladder 49 that remind of when my dad got hurt in a fire a couple years back--he was out of work for over a year and almost didnt make it out, so these movies kill me..

thanks again dan!

Jen, It comes out on Tuesday the 8th. I know I will be getting it for Dh, who is a volunteer FF, but won't be letting the kids watch it for the same reason as your dad.

Jeanne-i saw it in the theaters and cried from about 5 minutes in to the very end..
my younger brother, who is a 6 foot 6 18 year old, also cried the entire time..
it was a very good story, and i could relate alot of it to my dads fire company, but very tough to watch....
my little cousin, who is 12, wanted to go see it with me, and i wouldnt let her

thanks again..i will be buying it

I don't think I have EVER cried like that over a movie before. It rocked!

Lindsay-- i know! i thought i was just emotional since what happened to my dad,,but my friend went with me and cried the entire time too

cant wait to buy it!!

I know I'll cry watching it and I'll buy it(also a fan of Joaquin Phoenix)

I know it's coming out net Tues...well because it's holding me off until the Tues after that. But keep an eye out. Video/DVDs are almost always released on Tues to make sure everyone has a chance to release on the same day. Very few are released on Fridays (really, really few) , and some are released early due to release date breaking (Signs was the last one I can recall with that though).

If anyone spots an early release on dvd/video or even book...don't be shy. The industry tries to level the playing field and wants to know if anyone dishonors that. Some even offer rewards for finding early releases.

My 16 y.o. DD saw this movie and came home crying, convinced that I was going to die on the job. It took me an hour to convince her the story is F-I-C-T-I-O-N.

Thanks.

Somehow, I don't think it will be coming into our house.

Its definitely scary though watching it and knowing that your dad is a fireman..I mean, i know when i was little ,i never thought my dad would get hurt while on the job,,,but then i got that phone call whne i was 17 or 18...then watching that movie..it just hits you..i cried my eyes out!

okay ..i just watched this again--still cried my eyes out! great movie..it was fun watching the firemen in the movie and seeing how similar they were to the firemen i know..

I was never a fan of Joaquin Pheonix until I saw this movie.

Wasn't the movie based loosely on a real life story? John Travolta was on Oprah before the movie opened and brought some firefighters with him, that he flew in personally on his own jet. I didn't the see the entire show, but got the impression that these men were the inspiration somehow for this movie.

Anyone know?

Jen, DH and I just bought Ladder 49, we will be watching it tonight.

Thanks for the tissue alert, Jen... I sure needed them.

Yes, I did. Made my ask my DH a bunch of questions, though! lol.

We saw this at the movies and thought it was very good. Yes, very sad in parts, but an excellant movie. My favorite is Travolta but this movie gave me a new appreciation Joquin Phoenix. What a hottie!

I bought it Tuesday, and watched it last night with my next door neighbors. What a great movie. It's definitely NOT Backdraft II.
