Lack of Thanksgiving Talk

Is the lack of Thanksgiving talk on these boards an indication of low crowd levels? We're going 11/27-12/1 and based on dinning reservations it looks like it will be pretty crowded. But I'm not seeing much talk here so maybe dinning reservations are not a good crowd indicator.

I'm interested to know this as well! I arrive Thanksgiving morning....

Is thanksgiving less crowded compared to the first few days after New Years? We had been considering going Jan 1-5, but maybe thanksgiving would be better?

We’ll be there for Thanksgiving!! :yay:

Edit: we’ve gone for Thanksgiving week the past few years. In my experience, it is busy (much more so than during our late July trip) but not as busy as I have found it at the week of Easter. We’re going this year for two nights before a New Year’s cruise and I’m anticipating very large crowds then.

Threads have been popping up on here and the restaurants subforum. Dining availability isn't really a good indicator of crowd levels.

Went Thanksgiving last year. Found the crowds very manageable with a good plan, but I can see people that do no planning having some frustrations.

The weather.........absolutely perfect.

I'd worried that crowds would be off the charts with GE opening, but now I'm a smidge hopeful because the new ride will be opening the week after Thanksgiving. Maybe there will be a bit of a lull and crowds will be more typical for that week? Fingers crossed.

I've noticed that there weren't as many posts as I'd like to see either, as this is our first time going at that time, but had chalked it up to being overshadowed by GE, Halloween, and Christmas, all things that Disney pays more attention to.

I'm not sure how much of an effect the date for RotR would have. I feel like people who booked Thanksgiving did so thinking it'd be a bonus of RotR was ready but not that it was necessary.

True, but it might keep locals away for a week. Maybe not, I'm still planning for a crowd and will be pleasantly surprised if it's not too bad. :)

We are there the 27th - 1st as well! First Thanksgiving trip for us. We have gone several different times of the year but never Thanksgiving week.

I have another thread going on”booked and nervous”

Our first trip with kids under 5 and will be there from 23-28th. People are split and some are saying if we plan and have FP take afternoon breaks it would be ok.

Others saying go a week before. I have been looking to see if I can move dates around and see there is a possibility to do nov 20th-25th. Juts moving up 3 days.

I also thought that since SW ride is opening the week after we may see those crowds coming maybe later in the week. I have no clue. Juts need more opinion to further confuse myself.

I'm just going to put this right here (don't mind the highlighted dates, those are my travel dates)

This is the crowd calendar on TouringPlans.com - you don't even need to know what the park labels are for each column, the numbers are self explanatory:

428428

I don't think the lack of talk on these boards is an indication of lower crowds. Disers are a small fraction of park guests, and those on these boards are smart and generally plan their trips around the least busy times to go. Thanksgiving will be crowded - it always is. Not as crowded as Christmas and Easter, but certainly not light crowds either. The touring plans prediction above is a good indication. They base their calculations on lots of historical data from previous years. So, when they say 9 or 10, that gives a pretty good idea of what you'll be dealing with.

I'll be there 11/24-11/29. It's our first Thanksgiving week trip as well, despite having gone just about every other time of the year. We are probably going to do MVMCP on the 24th. Kenny the Pirate's site has the crowds for that week listed as "insane". I'm not particularly worried about it. We will make the best of it!

Here's the best thing about going during peak season: Everything is running at full capacity.

It's really not as bad as people say it is. I've been to Disney for Thanksgiving, Mardi Gras, July 4th, MLK weekend. Have a plan and you'll be fine. Expect the worst and hope for the best.

We went last Thanksgiving and are going this Thanksgiving. It truly wasn't as bad as you probably imagine, but it is going to be busy. As SaintsManiac just said, though, the perk of going on a holiday is that rides are working at full capacity and the parks are fully staffed. Last Thanksgivings lines were long, sure, but it really didn't feel much more crowded than any other time I've gone as far as navigating the parks thanks to the way Disney has been crowd shaping over the last few years.
