Today, when someone asked me if I was going to the football game tonight, I told them that I had work till 10.00 and that I could not make it.

They then in turn said that I should have the decency to call off to support the school at the game.

I told them that I would rather get more money, and that if I didn't work some friday, I would go to the game.

Now, I am thinking. Would I really go to the game tonight if I didn't work? I doubt it. Football doen't thrill me, and if I had to watch it, it would not be a losing highschool team.

Don't get me wrong, I love where I go, the people are great and all. But, I would not go around and wear "Go Hampton" shirts, and blue and gold every Friday.

Did anyone else not have much school spirit?

Well I have school spirit but I wasn't obsessed by it. If someone told me they had to go to work, I would let it lie like that.

It also helps that I like football and even though the team may lose, I still appreciate the sport.

There are other ways to support your school Brad. Don't feel bad that you aren't into football.

Don't feel too bad, I hated going to school sports games...we would always show up at the end just to find out where the parties were!:jester: ;) :D

i never went to a high school game of any sport (even our homecomings... our team was known for sucking. we lost homecoming one year, 0-66.)

I've worked at a university for six years and I have never been to one single sporting event. It's just not my thing. I have attened all the concerts, plays, lectures, etc. I love the school where I work - but I don't care anything about football, basketball, etc.

I go to a couple football games a year, because my best friend is on colorguard and wants me to come out and support her. But tonight, for example, there is a game. Where will I be? DL. :) I am not crazy about my school, but I guess I have a little spirit.

I don't believe in School Spirit. I'd rather waste my time on something fun, then go and watch sweaty men wrestle after a ball. But hey, that's just me.

Football? Nope! I had tons of school spirit, but I couldn't stand football. I used to love to go see the Marching Bands though. Going to concerts and plays were great, too. Funny though....if you pass on those, nobody accuses you of lacking school spirit.

You have school spirit Brad! You like where you go to school and you like the people there. That's school spirit! :)

My HS team had a 16 game losing streak while I was there. I went to most games though, simply because it was a good place to meet up with friends and just hang out. We very rarely watched much of the game.

Just cause you don't go to the football games doesn't mean you lack school spirit. Please, the only way my HS got students to the pep rally's was to have them during school time and make them mandatory. Then they wondered why many of the students booed the team.

Also worked every game day when I was in college. My Grad Assistanship was in the Union and Saturdays were part of the package...woulda loved for someone to tell me I didn't have school spirit because I worked game day....then I could have told them if they wanted to pay my tuition, I would gladly go to the games. I did watch the games on TV while I was working. But I also watched their biggest rival games too (I went to FSU but one of my staff was from Gainesville so we also watched the UF games).

Sporting events are just a small part of "school spirit". If you are a positive force in your school, you have school spirit. Some people show it with sports. Others show it with the arts, academics, or simply by respecting the mission statement of your school. Why go to an event that you are not interested in? Also, when I was in High School there were many people who attended sporting events only to harass or fight with people from our own school.

Maybe I'm the crazy one but I have TONS of school spirit! hehe!
I go to lots of sporting events and everything
the main reason I go is b/c I have to b/c I'm in band but hey! it's worth it, I get into all football games for free, instead of having to pay like some of my friends!
our football team is actually doing decent(2-0 in district(#1 in district right now! yay!) and then i thik 2-3 overall ) but for our softball and baseball team...i have ALL the spirit!
our baseball team won state and is number one in the NATION! how can I not be behind that team cheering my head off for them? our softball team went to state, i love being behind them as well!
i have lots of school shirts and all of that stuff and my favorite week of the year is homecoming week where we have spirit days! and of course I'm like the only one that dresses up(besides cheerleaders and elite and a few other brave souls) b/c I could give a flying flip what people think about me but it's still fun! :)
